So far there's been ten official Doctors. But which actor has best encapsulated the spirit of the TV Time Lord?

A ground breaking series that required some brave decisions from it's stars. William Hartnel I feel was very brave to take on the role of Dr Who and I feel carried it off very successfully. Without the success of the first series there would have been no other Dr Whos to make a comparison with, so for me William Hartnel is THE MAN

I like the tenth doctor should win because he is so funny and cheeky i love him and he is the best looking!!!!!!!!!!!!!

McCoy's doctor was a great addition to the show his move form eccentric clown to a more serious character was a wonderful move, it was such a pity that just as he grew on us the show was cancelled, at least he got to do a regeneration scene for the one-off movie, it kept the storyline arc and at least mean we can trace the doc history.

McCoy was the first one Isaw and of course hodls most memories, but with tomboy Ace (slightly rose tyler like) as his sidekick and meetings with all the major badguys he was a definitive incarnation, you could see him evolving from Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee et all, he seemed to posess a little bit of each.

4th Doc was very British and very credible. I loved the scarf....

Gosh this is hard. As a child I adored Tom Baker, but we're talking about a programme which has been revamped beyond recognition. I adored Christopher Eccleston but I so love David Tennant, so he has to be my No1, with Mr E second and Mr B 3rd.

I know! Growing up with Dr Who terrifying me every saturday night I also have a fondness for Tom Baker - especially with that scarf!

I think David Tennant's a bit serious at times and not eccentric enough - Christopher E was great though and really took on the role as a wacky, slightly mad Dr. So I think I'm sticking with Tom B as number 1 and Chris E in 2nd place...

Yes, I also wasn't sure about David Tennant, especially as Christopher Eccleston had been so great (and very like Tom Baker in the role). But I thought he was terrific in the 4 cybermen episodes and that swung it for me. But the Empty Child/The Doctor dances remain my all-time favourites from these series.

I'm enjoying Torchwood, but mainly for the references to things that happened in Dr Who, and for snippets about Capatin Jack. I actually think it's a bit tame and was expecting something far more adult given all the publicity surrounding it.

Jon Pertwee was the best to play the doctor.

David tennant was a really good actor and I think he is the best docter so far.
I think sometimes he could be funny.At first I didn't really like him and wanted the old docter back but now I want the 10th docter to stay all the time! I think David Tennant is so cool!

The best Dr Who for me has to be Christopher Eccleston,he was just brilliant.

David Tennant is the best Doctor, by a shortish-head from Jon Pertwee.

Until recently, Jon was my favourite, mainly because I grew up with that character. Anybody else didn't have quite the same magic.

So for David to be my favourite over Jon is a major achievement.

I feel that David brings a wonderful eccentricity to the character, with his expressive eyes mouth hair and mannerisms. That eccentricity fits so well with what I would expect from a scientific genius. Picture Albert Einstein and (of course) Emmet Brown from Back to the Future......

Some of the dialogue, particularly where things are falling into place in his mind and he's seeing the way through the situation seems to be brilliantly improvised.

And the scene where the Doctor is hopping around whilst diverting neutron radiation into his trainer is dubious science, but it is pure theatrical genius.

Well done David. I hope you'll make the role your own for a lot longer yet, we're getting perilously close to the Timelords 12th and supposedly final regeneration. We don't want that to happen too soon !
