Firstly, series 8 ended, so it's not on anymore. Secondly, Dave are airing Series 1, which hasn't been on TV before, starting on Monday 7th April, as far as I know, with two episodes at 11.30am and repeated at 4.30pm. Thirdly, most people preferred it at 7pm, because most of them were at work or travelling home at 4.30pm (hint hint Mr. Dave *puppy dog eyes*)

It was good of Dave to put Series 1 on after we moaned about Whose Line issues, but I think that we wanted the schedule changed more than anything. If anyone from Dave reads this, we're really grateful for your wise decision to put on Series 1, which is funny, but we'd have liked you to change Whose Line to 7pm in the evening. Thanks for reading! I'm also going to sound all pretentious and but I apologise on behalf of people who are all rude and demanding on the messageboard. We do appreciate your decisions, and I'm guessing that you can't always do whatever people on the messageboard want.

SabakuSands- According to my tv mag, Whose Line as moved to 7pm (it says that it's on at 4:30 and then again at 7...) So problem solved Smile

Thanks Dave; I was starting to get scared of some of the demanding people... ^^; Cheeky

I'm also glad it's back! I have the complete first and second series on DVD, but skipped some of the series 1 stuff, because it didn't have Tony Slattery in (no comment on that!)

It could be worse...they could be airing Series 10!

Series 8 just ended on Dave! Now it's being replaced with series 1! It's exciting seeing series 1 on TV (This is the third time I've seen the first episode, and I always enjoy it!) I believe I may have seen an episode or two of Series 3...I might be confusing it with series 4, but there's a particularly hilarious episode in which Sandi Toksvig and Tony Slattery play Film and Theatre Styles, and Sandi has great comebacks to his insults. Series 7 was also on Dave.

From what I remember, Dave originally only showed episodes originally aired within a certain group of years, and I recall seeing from series 4 to series 7 if I'm right. Then series 8 was on. The reason that one series only had two episodes is that NTL most likely did not have the full episode list. Try 4 on Demand for series 1-8 free, although you have to download to watch from series 5 upwards.

I'd personally like to see series 2 and 3 (perhaps 4 again?) on Dave, as I remember the episodes I've seen being high quality, and very entertaining. But right now, I'm more than content to see series 1 every day on Dave!

SabakuSands- 4 on demand has series 1-9 to download and now you can also stream for free on it's online service, while on the tv service it only has series 4-9 ^_^ (Sorry if it seems like I'm correcting you...I just want to share what I know).

Also thanks Dave; I can't seem to find the dvd anywhere ( It was sold out straight away at my local dvd store >.< ),so thanks for showing it. Smile

Nono, please correct me! I like to know all the details, so if I'm missing something, please don't hesitate to correct me! It's good that you can stream it. I might try watching series 9, but I'm wary of series 9 and 10, as I'm pretty sure that those last two series begin the transformation of the UK version into the US, and series 10 is basically Whose Line US, just earlier. I love many things about the UK version, as you may have guessed, so I wouldn't want to see it turn into the US version! D:

I'll let you know about anything else I find out ; I'm always watching stuff on 4od (and way too much Farther Ted Embarrassed ), so if there's anything new I'm sure to find out...

I've never watched series 10 but I've seen the US one and I feel it's too gimmicky (is that even a word...ah well) so I don't really like it, although I've seen series 9 and it does seem that some of the guests seem a bit bored; but that's just my opinion.

Anyway I'm starting to waffle on a bit, so I better stop typing.

I really do enjoy watching Whose Line Is It, but i would like to know why every day now, Dave shows the same two episodes at 11am, 4pm and 7pm? Why not show a variety? Confused I think this would be so much better because then you'll be seeing 6 episodes each day!! How good would that be?? Big Grin As well as this, why is it i am only able to purchase series one and two? Frown I want all of the series to be released! Wink Does anyone know whether the other series will be released soon?

LilHanHan: Father Ted is superb, you have good taste :D I agree with your diagnosis on the US series, and I've seen an episode where Greg Proops plays one game in six, because they overuse the audience members. Also, the change of host makes a huge diference! Also, if you note in Party Quirks, the Let's Make a Date and other games where people have assigned roles- how on earth is the guesser supposed to figure out three whole lines of caption? I remember the simple ones on UK- they were still hilarious!
In WL UK, you'd have a few regular-ish appearances by women, and they could easily compete with Colin and Ryan...and they aren't afraid to keep up with Tony's innuendos and even use good comebacks (a la Sandi Toksvig, Yellow Pages, Film and Theatre Styles with Tony!) Josie and Caroline make a brilliant team, and all the women on the UK version were just as good as the men. In the US version, seeing women is rare, but seeing women with talent is even rarer! I'm going by all the episodes I've seen on Five US. They really can't beat the original. I'll also stop waffling! Wow, and have I waffled or what?!

Whose Line Fan: Basically, I'm sure you know that Dave are showing Series 1, but if they showed 6 different episodes each day, it would take approximately two and a bit days to finish Series 1. They want to pace the series, and I'm sure that they are pleasing many viewers who complained about the schedule previously: Viewers who couldn't watch at 11 and 4 because of work or school have the opportunity to see it at 7pm. If different episodes were shown, they'd be missing out a lot. When Dave were broadcasting series 4-8, they could afford to have a mishmash of episodes daily. However, they would repeat some, as I noticed when I watched it one holiday. Not that I'm complaining, because repeated Whose Line is completely preferable to no Whose Line.

As for Series 1 and 2, the US got the 1 and 2 DVD a long time before us, which is rather annoying considering it's the UK edition. Also, the DVD was to be released earlier than 25th of March- it was pushed back at least once. At least it's out now! I think that if sales are good of series 1 and 2, they'll consider bringing out the later series. I personally believe that it would be extremely scrupulous and wise to bring out Series 3 and 4, as I've decided that they're my favourite series because their episodes were generally hilarous. I'm afraid I have no idea about release dates for future DVDs, but in terms of release dates, Series 1 and 2 was out fairly recently, so I reckon it'll be a good couple of months before they even begin to think about more DVDs.

SabakuSands- Wow I totally agree; I've only watched a few episodes of the US version and it does seem that some contestants don't have a chance...

Also you have beaten me on the waffling; congrats! (When I start typing, it's kinda hard to stop ^^; )

Finally, I've just realised that I've spelled Father Ted wrong in my last post >.< (My spelling seems to be getting worse, argh! ).

Whose Line Fan- Like SabakuSands said, if they showed 6 episodes a day the entire series would have finished in less than 3 days (each series has only about 12-19 episodes); so that would mean tons of repeats and then people will start complaining about repeats again. Wink

Haha, if it's a subject I feel passionately enough about, I can ramble on for longer than John Sessions during Authors! Big Grin That, and I don't have many people to talk about Whose Line to, as they just don't show the same level of interest!

Off the top of my head, I think that Series 1 has 13 episodes, and 2 compilations, so therefore 15 episodes in total. Just so you know, the compilations are hilarious! I personally think that Story (not Authors Tongue ) is a funny game if the contestants can get it right. In the compilations, you'll see at least one beautiful example of a good Story (Tony only knows one Russian phrase, which actually he pinched from a Cambridge Footlights Revue sketch involving chess, very funny if you ever get to look it up on youtube!) I won't spoil anything else!

Anyway, now that I'm watching WL again on Dave, I'm curious to know what you think of Jonathan Pryce (is that how you spell his name?) I think he's quite funny, but John Session seems to ramble too much for us to see his full potential! Also, what do you think of Series 1? My opinion: Everyone has more hair in this one...including Josie Lawrence XD

ah ha... but when they put Ryan with Sandi Toksvig in series 2, the size difference alone was enough to make me keel over in stiches! (when they did shakespear in Film and Theatre, thay jst waffled!) AND Tony as...well...i would type it but i might get blocked, can you see where I'm coming from?

but why cant Dave just show the whole lot? series 1 righyt through to 10! a whole cauldren of wit and gags (as well as fashion...speaking of which, how many styles does Josie have??? Tongue )

now that would make me a very happy person Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

SabakuSands- I think that Jonathan Pryce is quite funny, do you know how many episodes he's in?

Also it's funny when John Sessions really rambles on although Clive's pressed the buzzer a million times. ^^;

I quite like series 1 so far, especially when a member of the audience shouted a suggestion at the wrong time and when the cameraman did something wrong; little things like that make the series even more funnier. Tongue

eejit1990- It would be cool if they were able to show every series; but remember, they kinda need to buy the license (or something like that...I not sure ^^; ) to be able to show them which can cost quite a lot...

So carry on watching the current series they're showing and hope that, that's shown them that we still want to see all the series'... Wink

(I've rambled on again...whoops Embarrassed )

I don't know, series 1 compared to the other series they've shown before seems so.. civilised. Bring on series 2, 3 and 4 though and the likes of Ryan, Colin, Greg and Brad!
They've gone and put every series of Whose Line on 4OD now, including 9 and 10! Smile

Here is a question for all of you: Who is your favourite contestant?
Mine has to be John Sessions. I have noticed that not many of you mention him. I think he was brilliant! The way he went in to different types of characters was great to watch. In some of the episodes Sessions would be so good that the other contestants wouldn't be able to get a word in!! It was ashame he was only in the first two series and just a couple of the third though! However, my other favourites are: Ryan Stiles, Colin Mocherie, Tony Slattery, Josie Lawerence, Paul Merton, Griff Rhys Jones (You can't forget him!), Mike McShane, Greg Proops and Steve Frost!

It's gotta be Colin, I've even signed up to his website! Smile Him and Ryan are unstoppable. They just work so well together, if you've ever seen the US version (without Clive) they certainly have their moments on there too! I also love Greg, the show wouldn't be complete without his and Clive's little arguments!

Firstly, I have to correct myself here: Series 1 is 13 episodes, INCLUDING the two compilations. Secondly, I've had a busy end of week what with going back to school- was out last night later than I should have been due to annoying brown belts at karate, and if I hadn't seen the first ten minutes or so of Whose Line, and I hadn't seen Tony, I would have been really put out. I'll get round to answering everyone now! Thirdly: Warning, long post ahead! If you can't be bothered to read it, please skim until you reach the relevant part Big Grin

eejit1990: Hello, fellow fan! I agree with the size difference- "When I open my eyes, can there please be a really tall man standing next to me!" Or words to that effect. Seeing series 1 to 10 would really be a brilliant experience, although I might stop watching partway through 9. Also, whatever Josie's fashion, she always either manages to look impressive. Personally, I liked all the waistcoats, and I was particularly fond of her stripy blouses, which made her look kind of like a pirate (in series 8, methinks!)

LilHanHan: Jonathan Pryce is in two episodes of series 1 at least, but I don't think he was in many more, sadly. I am still most amused by his bedroom farce and the trousers! Many many people find John Sessions irritating and smug. I can see where they're coming from, as his smile does look quite arrogant. However, he is extremely learned! I remember reading an article about him, and the word 'erudite' was learned. See, Whose Line teaches you new words! My mother often calls him clever, and she likes to see him on Whose Line. Good thing for her that he's the regular of Series 1, and you can see his name in the credits right up there with Clive! I adored his telephone reggae right back in episode 1.
Also, you can see the extent of Clive's talent at improvisation as he deals with the audience member and the cameraman smoothly and wittily! I personally really liked it when he accidentally pressed the buzzer instead of the doorbell on the party quirks in episode 4. "Hang on, there's someone at the microwave." Paul complements him well. In an interview on Radio 4, Clive explained that three buttons were built into his desk, I think it was two buzzers and a doorbell (or the other way round.) He said that it wasn't a good idea to give him three buttons, as he'd get mixed up, and for some reason, that design "error" was included in all of his desks, so he always had three buttons! If it was me, I'd get a lot more confused than Clive. Props to him for only briefly mixing them up once, and very early on rather than later!

hannahjay: It almost looks like a politics or current affairs show, what with the suits etc. Although Josie started off a lot...wilder in fashion choices, and her hair and outfits calm down as the series go on (along with Ryan, if you recall the 'neon love chicken'!) Also, it's not that obvious, but in the first two series, everyone can get away with a lot more! I think that Tony is possibly a lot ruder in Authors. Series 2 picks up quite a bit more, with the appearance of Greg Proops, Sandi Toksvig (who is amazing), along with others!
If Series 2 is shown, and we are lucky, and are graced with the Christmas Special, I guarantee that you will appreciate them! Indeed, the Christmas Special has....six people instead of four! It's quite true! And you can do so much more in Musicals (or it could be Directors- it's sort of a musical, with two people as the directors envisioning the story and four people acting it out). Thank you very much for the notification about 4oD, I must go and investigate how good or bad the last two series are.

Whose Line Fan: It's really hard to say. I'd be tempted to say Tony, as I have a huuuuge crush on him, but I also realise how awesome all the others are. Back when I first watched it, I noticed Ryan and Colin, as they shone. I didn't even notice Tony Slattery. Then, as I watched it more and more, I saw an episode in which Tony was better than Steve Steen, Jim Sweeney and Mike McShane, and I saw him team up with Steve Frost in a great partnership. I can't really say when, but it was a while after that when I realised I was watching Tony for entire games, feeling disappointed when he wasn't in it, and being happy when he was in it. After I started to look him up on tinternet, I realised how much attention I was paying to him, and then figured out that I had a crush on him. However, I was paying more attention to Tony, and I was failing to appreciate Whose Line. Eventually, I managed to regain my appreciation, and now I can both fancy Tony, and enjoy Whose Line at the same time! Paul Merton is brilliant, with his deadpan humour, and Josie Lawrence is a superb singer...the only people I don't really like from Whose Line:
Ardal O'Hanlon- I really do love him in Father Ted and My Hero, but I'm sorry, his performance was poor at best. Griff Rhys Jones wasn't that notable, I can only recall his eating a sock, and I'm sure he was in more than one episode. Russell Fletcher, the one show wonder, was extremely forgettable. All I remember is that he had a natural advantage when it came to Aussie soap in Film and Theatre Styles. That was it.
However, Ryan and Colin have a psychic connection, and if you've watched them in some games (Funeral game! Funeral game!), they sing the same words at the same time to a song they're making up on the spot...and Sound Effects! They're telepathic, I'm convinced of it!

hannahjay (again!): The US version...I watch it when Whose Line UK isn't on, if I find it on TV. I make no effort to find it on TV, if it's on, I'll watch it. I miss Clive very much, and Drew, as well as not being such a great host, isn't very good at the games he takes part in. The only stellar performance I've seen him do is a Questions Only (Brad Sherwood won, and the setting for QO was 1930s America and gangsters), in which I believe he baffled Colin and Ryan. Without Clive, you get no sarcasm, no points (I'm sorry, but the handing out of dollars instead of points is abhorrent!), and no arguments with Greg! And no jibes about no neck. The long-running Clive/Greg "Do you have *mundane item* in America?" argument will continue to delight me for years!

Sorry for the rambling, but I had to reply to everyone! I think I'll go practice the Hoedown on the piano now (youtube is gold! It has tutorials on how to play the Hoedown! I learnt how, and practiced every day of my Easter holidays! Now back to school though.) I can't wait for Whose Line at 7pm! I'll be watching it, you know it! Wink

Whoa, my eyes!
SabakuSands, I actually read all of your post, I think I should give myself a medal hehe...

I quite like John Sessions, especially in QI ( I know wrong show...but what the heck Tongue ) he's good at what he does and he's not afraid to show off! ^^;

My favourite is Josie because she's good at all the games and manages to be kinda flirty with the contestants (she manages to get along with all of them just fine Smile )

Oh, and on a BBC documentary called "TV's Hunger For Radio Comedy",Clive mentions that in Whose Line (I actually didn't know that Whose Line was a radio show...so I wasn't expecting it to show up on this doc ^^; ); he wasn't bothered about the neck jokes because he knew that they were a bit desperate for a laugh when they couldn't really think of anything...he was just happy that he was able to help in a way Wink

Oh and finally...you can play the piano?!? Cool! Smile

Haha I'm flattered you relied to me twice. Tongue
Watched Whose Line earlier, man what can I say, Tony in Authors was brilliant.

Some people prefer the UK version to the US and vice versa. I'll admit I only watch the US version for the Ryan + Colin magic, then again they are in every episode over there! Some brilliant moments, and I much prefer the American version of Greatest Hits, my favourite game, spurring such moments as the Arctic Tern and the Asteroid Boogaloo (if you haven't seen them YOU MUST!!!).
I have the American DVDs imported, volumes 1 and 2 of Season 1, these have not been shown on fiveUS and to be honest I can't see why not. Starting off they had far more different guests (including Stephen Colbert) whilst keeping the more familiar Ryan, Colin and Wayne.

As for the UK, well it's great to see so many different people and different styles with them. I LOVED Eddie Izzard when he was on, it was a shame he didn't come back. Mike McShane's songs were the best (and he has his own estate in Little Britain how cool is that!?). Gosh there's so many people on it that make me laugh.. I've already gone on about Ryan, Colin and Greg, but there's so many more.. Steve, Tony, Rory, Sandi..
To be honest I don't really get John Sessions but mainly that's because I don't understand the styles he does it in (particularly in stuff like Authors, when I'd never heard of the Author!) but he is very engaging to watch.

SabukuSands, you may now have competition in the rambling on stakes!

Yeah, you completely deserve a medal! I'm going mad, as my parents are talking and talking and talking and talking over the second episode of Whose Line. I don't think I heard past the introductions...oh wait, didn't even hear that, so I don't know what Clive said about Enn Reitel. My parents just won't shut up! And I enjoyed this episode on the DVD >_<

I expect that if John Sessions does show off, that's why people think he's smug. However, I only find it funny when he doesn't stop when buzzed, whereas others find it exasperating! And as for the wrong show, I've watched anything just to see a glimpse of WL contestants, even for a few minutes! Big Grin

Josie is brilliant, and proves that women on WL are just as good as men! She makes a good team with a surprising number of contestants! Her and Mike are a dream team in musical games, and the same applies for her and Caroline. She is also great with Ryan (I remember a Film and Theatre Styles, where Ryan is in hospital, Josie's a visitor/nurse, and it ends in a weepy film). I like to watch her in Series 1, and admire her hair Tongue

I didn't know Whose Line was originally a radio show until I found out somewhere while looking it up. Apparently, (sorry if you know this already!), it was a radio show, and Stephen Fry and John Sessions were regulars. When they were deciding to make it into a TV show, they took the idea to BBC2, and while BBC2 were uming and aahing about it, Channel 4 got in there. However, Stephen wouldn't do it as a regular, but we all know he went on it a couple of times now :D I'm glad that Clive didn't let the neck jokes get to him, because I do wonder about all the insults sometimes! And forget helping them, he (in my opinion) is just as big a star as everyone else. He runs the whole show, interacts extremely successfully with the contestants, he is the point master, chooses whom he wants to win, and...."in the style of my choosing"- what more can I say? :D

I can't really play the piano- I have an exam in June, and I didn't practice any of my exam pieces over Easter. All I did was learn how to play the Hoedown, and practice that. Not really that helpful when I'm going into an exam armed with that tune! But it's about one of three songs I can actually play, and it's fun! Now, if ever I was to have a Whose Line party, the Hoedown is a legitimate option.

As for the Whose Line party, it would be easy to have a party with a host and four other people, and play games from Whose Line. Classics like That'll Be Charlie Now, Questions Only, and Party Quirks are simple to play, and you can play most of those, if not all of those games. Also, just supply a DVD, mute it, and you have Film Dub! The only games that would be hard to do would be general musical ones. However, it wouldn't be hard to find a backing track for some Rap, and if you have someone who can play the Hoedown, everyone's least favourite game can be undertaken! When I say least favourite, I'm going by the reactions to the announcement of "Now, we're going to play the Hoedown", Colin pulling a Colin, and Ryan threatening to do himself in if another Hoedown was played, while still managing to sing about a vending machine somehow! (US version, bloopers, easy to find on youtube)

Apologies again for rambling, I just can't stop once I start on Whose Line. I think I'm channeling John Sessions, who isn't even dead!
