Use plenty of colourful foliage
Use a lot of foliage - try purple, bronze, greys and purples for your filler plants. Don't use yellow, just concentrate on the oranges and reds.
Try block colours
Cheery wallflowers in strong blocks really work. Reds and oranges can get lost in a shady borders, so sunny spots are best.
