How to make a Union flag cushion cover

You will need...
-
Plain cushion cover
- Contrast fabric no more than 30cm sq
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Sewing machine
- Sew on motif
Follow these simple steps and you'll be surprised by the stylish results.
-

Step 2: Iron the hems
Make your contrast fabric into a square and iron down the hems all the way around the square.
-

Step 2: Cut ribbons to size
Place the background colour ribbon onto the fabric and cut it to size. Repeat this until you've created the shape of the Union Jack flag. Do exactly the same with the thinner, contrast colour and neatly fold over the ribbon edges, pinning them into place.
-

Step 3: Sew ribbons in place
Sew all around the edges of the fabric before sewing along the centre of each ribbon until they are all secure. Remove the pins.
-

Step 4: Attach centre piece to cushion cover
Pin the ribbon centre piece onto the centre of the cushion cover and run it through the sewing machine. Make sure you don't sew the front of the cushion to the back! Next, pin your motif into the centre of the ribbons and neatly hand sew it into place. Remove the pins and put the cushion pad inside the cover.
