How to make a feather lamp shade

You will need...
-
Feather trim
- Paint brush
- Flexible masking tape
- Glue gun
- Old lamp shade
- Scissors
Interior designer Gordon Whistance shows you how to make this stylish accessory in this simple step by step guide.
-

Step 1: Paint the lamp shade
Mask the inside of your old lamp shade with a flexible masking tape and paint the outside of the shade with a dark coloured emulsion paint. This stops light escaping from the shade and gives you a good background base for the feather trim.
-

Step 2: Glue the trim in place
Once the paint is dry, remove the tape and starting from the bottom, secure the first section of the feather trim with glue from a glue gun. Carefully wind the feathers onto the shade, securing the feathers with glue every second wind or so to make sure they stay in place.
-

Step 3: Cut the trim to size
Once you've reached the top of your lamp shade, secure the end with glue and trim off any excess.
