Laying underfloor insulation: part 2 - fitting the insulation

DIY expert Craig Phillips demonstrates how to install under floor insulation. This easy to follow step by step guide shows how to add felt and insulation filler.

  • <b>Step 1: Staple the felt in place</b>

    Step 1: Staple the felt in place

    Staple breathable roof felt onto the floor joists, creating equal swags of felting between them which will be filled later.

  • <b>Step 2: Seal any gaps</b>

    Seal up all the gaps using tape to ensure all spaces where a draught could get in through the floorboards are sealed up.

  • <b>Step 3: Fill with insulation</b>

    Step 3: Fill with insulation

    Fill the gaps between the joists with the light weight insulation, spreading it out, ensuring there is a minimum of 4inches of insulation in each gap.
