How to build decking: part 1 - setting out the area

Step 1: Measure and mark the decing area
Measure the length and width of your required area. You can use a string line to help take an accurate measurement. Use stakes as corner markers to keep the string line square and symmetrical to the building.

Step 2: Distinguish height and level of decking boards
Make the decking flush to your inside flooring. Use joists sitting on beams bolted to the wall - the ledger - and posts supporting the other end.
