Decorating video: Modern country dining room
- For the latest look add a splash of colour. The tomato-red lamp shade contrasts with the natural wood and brightens up the whole scheme.
Take a down-to-earth country look and mix with industrial elements, such as metal furniture and open units, for a practical room that feels modern and light. Styled and presented by Robin Collingwood.
Step 1: Walls
Leave exposed plaster on walls or recreate this effect with layers of paint mixed with sand. Paint on a base, then dab on shades of off-white and ochre.
Step 2: Floors
Wood floors are practical and warm. If you don't have good floorboards, lay a textured wood laminate instead and add a cream rug.
Step 3: Windows
Light is key to this look, so keep curtains simple. The brown fabric works well with the wood tones.
Step 4: Furniture
Mix wood and metal for an industrial feel and buy an untreated wood table for a great focal point. Open units complete the functional look.
Step 5: Accessories
Shop around for hard-wearing rustic accessories that grow more attractive with wear and tear. Hide untidy items away in storage baskets.
