You will need:
-
Two 5m lengths of 28mm rope
- Three 1m lengths of pressure-treated wood, two measuring 40 x 140mm and one 40 x 180mm
- Two hooks
- Insulation tape
- Electric drill
- 30mm wood drill bit
These chunky shelves are easy to make and a great way to display your outdoor plants.
Time to complete job: One hour
Approximate budget: From £15 but you could do it for nothing if you have the right bits and pieces in the garage!
-

Step 1: Drill holes for the rope
Mark a point near every corner of each piece of wood and drill holes large enough to thread the rope through it.
-

Step 2: Prepare the rope
Fold each rope in half and tie a knot at the folded end to create a loop. Attach the hooks to the wall 90cm apart. Hang one rope from each hook using the loops. Wrap tape around the rope ends to make them easier to thread.
-

Step 3: Assemble the shelf
Thread the rope ends through one of the narrower pieces of wood and knot. Repeat with all the pieces, using the widest one last. Cut off the excess rope.
