You will need:
-
Box of 2in screws
- 8x1 fascia board (primed and undercoated)
- Tape measure
- Handsaw
- Combination square
- Electric screwdriver gun
- All-in-one countersink drill
Affixing a fascia is the finishing touch for construction work. A single plank of wood (or a plastic fascia board) will cover up unsightly building work, protect your house and provide a perfect place to hang gutters. It's a multi-functional friend to builders and homeowners alike. Plus, it's so easy to hang, it only takes a few minutes and it won't be one of those jobs that leaves you sweating and swearing in frustration. So bring things to a satisfying finish by affixing a fascia.
Time to complete the job: 20 mins
-

Step 1: Size it up
Measure the space the fascia board will need to cover.
Transfer the measurements over to the 8x1 fascia board.
Use the square to mark a cut line. Cut the board to size using the handsaw.
Tip: Put a primer and undercoat on the board before starting the job so it's ready when you need it. -

Step 2: Place the fascia
Check along the length of the board for any marks, knotholes or other blemishes. If your fascia has imperfections, hang them hidden against the wall so you won't see them later. Get help to hold the board in place.
Tip: For any job above the first floor, you can use plastic fascia board. Plastic doesn't require any maintenance. With wood you'll need to sand and paint it every five or six years. -

Step 3: Secure it in place
Use your all-in-one to make screw holes. An all-in-one can drill a guide hole and countersink all at once, hence the name! You should put two holes (top and bottom) every 15in along the entire length of the board to make sure it is held firmly in place.
Use the screwdriver gun to fit the screws.
Give the fascia a quick coat of gloss paint. Now you're ready to hang a gutter!
