You will need:
-
Cable connecter
- Wire trimmer
- Wire stripper
- Extra flex
- Small screw driver
You shouldn't have to design your whole room around the one electrical socket, placed in the most inconvenient corner. So put your lamps wherever you like and angle the TV just so. Then plan a lighting design that sends a warm, welcoming glow over your whole house. When it comes to plugging in, it's easy and quick to extend an electrical flex to reach even the most hidden sockets. Now, if only we could make those yards of exposed cable more attractive.
Time to complete the job: half an hour
-

Step 1: Trim down and strip
Use the wire trimmer to make a dead straight cut on the end of the flex. Strip about two inches of the plastic coating off the end of the flex, leaving the three cables bare.
Use the other stripper to take the plastic coating from the individual cables (about 1.5 inches worth). Twist each of the bare wires so the wire is in a neatly twisted bundle, not going every which way like a bad hair day.
Snip away any excess wire leaving about 0.5 inches of exposed wire. -

Step 2: Attach the flex
Take the main cover off of the connector. Loosen the plastic cable holder so you can slide the wires beneath it.
Insert the blue (neutral) cable into the connector first, and screw it down tight. Do the green/yellow (earth) cable next. Finally, insert the brown (live) cable.Tighten the screws on the cable holder so it pinches the cables in place.
Tip: The wires should be neatly inserted so there is no bare wire showing and no crossing over or twisting. -

Step 3: Attach the flex extension
Repeat Step 2 using the flex extension. Make sure the earth, neutral and live cables are lined up with the corresponding cables on the other flex.
Finally, replace the top of the cable connector and tighten the screws.
