First step, look at what’s missing. Second, come up with a smart new look on a budget – and get “the client” to agree. Then the interesting viewing really begins. Show participants don’t shy away from demonstrating complete distrust in Dermot, getting narky with his ideas and driving him mad with questions. Even the builders complain about him not being around and delaying their work. This might just be the most accurate portrayal of a real home makeover on TV.
But what’s really fab about this show is it’s move away from the traditional home makeover recipe to get the architect’s design perspective instead of the builder’s DIY tips. The half-hour episodes are a worthwhile watch for any potential home renovators in these credit crunch times - and the final designs never fail to impress.
God bless the Irish for this candid home makeover series.
