Buying in Chichester & Lymington

Buyer's tips
-
Buying around Chichester harbour is tricky – seal the deal before the sailing season starts in March.
- Many waterfront properties don't come onto the open market, so getting a foothold in the area is worthwhile.
- The Chichester coast is very flat which means that beautiful home might come with a flood risk.
The buyers: Caroline & Hamish
With a budget of £1 million, Caroline and Hamish want to escape their London home and head out to the south coast at weekends. They're looking for a place to share with their three children, Henrietta (6), Oliver (3) and little Arabella who's just 1.
Hamish is a banker and his busy schedule means he won't be able to get involved in the house hunt so Caroline, who's taking a career break from the Civil Service, is taking her friend Charlotte along for the ride. They've chosen Lymington in Hampshire and Chichester in West Sussex as likely locations for that dream getaway destination.
Why Chichester & Lymington?
For anyone who loves life by the sea, a home near Chichester's glorious natural harbour is a little slice of heaven – hardly surprising then that people have been living here for over 10,000 years. It's an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with plenty of fascinating history to explore.
The harbour area includes a number of picturesque villages and, for our couple, the Witterings, Itchenor and Bracklesham Bay are the hotspots. West Wittering beach boasts sand dunes and lagoons and is one of the closest big beaches to London.
If you want to blend in with the locals, being out on the water is the way to do it, so take a sailing lesson and get a taste of life on the ocean wave.
Recently voted as the best place to live by the coast, the lovely Georgian market town of Lymington has an international reputation as a sailing resort. It lies on the southern edge of the New Forest – an area of outstanding natural beauty. Head west and you'll find four miles of coastal nature reserve.
