Meet Rachel De Thame

Fun fact

  • In 1988, Rachel adopted the pseudonym Rachel Colover to star as Arthur's mother Ingraine in an all-star miniseries version of Merlin.

Born in London, Rachel studied ballet to a professional standard at the Royal Ballet School, but after a prolonged bout of glandular fever was forced to give up her dream of a dancing career.

A model career
Rachel then turned her studies to History of Art at London's City Lit and spent a short period working for a well-respected international firm of art dealers in London. However, she was soon spotted by a modelling agency and went on to enjoy a successful modelling career.

A major part of Rachel's modelling included appearances in TV ads, and casting agents soon began to suggest Rachel for acting roles. By 1988, Rachel had appeared in the mini-series Merlin and in the British feature film Bodywork.

Gone gardening
In 1998, Rachel left acting behind and followed a passion she inherited from her grandfather by enrolling at the English Gardening School. After graduating with a distinction in Practical Horticulture and Plants & Plantsmanship, clever girl, she got herself a spot on BBC2's Gardeners' World as a weekly presenter. Rachel has also filmed her own series for the BBC, Small Town Gardens and Gardening With The Experts and has also co-presented the BBC's coverage of the annual Chelsea Flower Show. Rachel lives with her husband in West London.
