What's On: March
History is about a lot more than television programmes – however well-made they may be! The subject really comes alive when you get out there and experience it first-hand. Our What's On Guide will help you track down the best historical events, exhibitions and activities right across the country.
This month's highlights include a new exhibition on the luckless Tudor occupants of Castle Howard, a stunning display of natural history illustrations at Buckingham Palace and a charming collection of Little Black Dresses at Brighton Museum. There's also a host of hands-on history activities to keep the kids amused over Easter.
NORTH Castle Howard
Castle Howard opens its 2008 season with a major new exhibition focusing on one of the most turbulent periods in the Howard family history. Surviving Henry: Tudor Howards on the Block tells the story of a family that seemed intent on self-destruction. Successive generations of Tudor-era Howards displeased their monarch and ended up beheaded or imprisoned. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a magnificent portrait of Henry VIII (pictured, above). When: Opens March 1 Tel: 01653 648444.
