Polzeath, Cornwall
North Cornwall's wonderful surfing beaches are famous for their laid-back vibe. But walk along the cliffs east of Polzeath and you'll be reminded of a dark passage in British history. A few hundred metres past Pentire Point, a plaque marks the place where, in 1914, the poet Laurence Binyon composed For the Fallen. The poem's famous fourth stanza appears on war memorials throughout Britain:They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

- Coast: Top Ten coastal spots in the UK
The BBC Horizon team did a one-off programme in the eighties called 'The Shape of Britain' which involved flying around the coast of Britain whilst local experts acted as guides to tell you what you were seeing. I personally think that this formula worked far more successfully that the one used by Nicholas Crane in Coast, because every time I get drawn into his programme one of his assistants pops-up for ten minutes to tell us all about a nearby town. - Something to say?
