Einstein is Born
On March 14th, 1879, the physicist Albert Einstein was born in Germany. Best known for his theory of relativity and the mass-energy equivalence formula E=MC2, Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921.

It was while working at a patent office in Bern, Switzerland, that Einstein produced much of his exceptional work despite not being in contact with any prominent physicists. He went on to publish more than 50 scientific papers and is often judged the greatest scientist in history. In this photograph, which was taken in 1951, he's sticking his tongue out at photographers on his 72nd birthday.
