Your review of Blanchland

Why I nominated this site: Dating back to 1165 when Blanchland was granted to the Premonstratensian Canons (White Monks) by Walter de Bolbec III, the current village was rebuilt in the late 18th and 19th centuries by The Lord Crewe's Charity who administered the estate of the late Lord Crewe, Bishop of Durham, who died in 1721.

The village contains 11 Scheduled Ancient Monuments, 46 Listed Buildings and is a Village Conservation Area. Famous people to have visited the village include John Wesley in 1747 and WH Auden in 1930.

The village has featured in several film and TV sets - 'Jude the Obscure', Catherine Cookson's 'Gambling Man' and 'A Dinner of Herbs', as well as the 'Badger' series. However it is loved not only for its history, but also for its beauty.
