When I first put a thread on here I said about seeing more of Foggy But I did not anticipate this many with most of them repeated almost weekly, there are plenty more episodes made with Truly and specials at Christmas, please change the system and let us staunch LOTSW addicts see something different.

Oh, yes, we call them Fig Newtons but you see, I am embracing my inner British Lass! My friend Vicki and I change in and out of our British accent readily, much to the chagrin of our chaps! Speaking of chaps, Vicki now sports an engagement ring! Mmmm, could I be traveling across The Pond solo next time? She says "Let's not be hasty; see what happens"...she wouldn't want me to go without her. Probably afraid she might miss out on items I spot at the charity shops!!! Thing is, I wouldn't be using a hire car, relying on public transport. But that would be an adventure for me! Big Grin Hug

IMDb certainly supports the contention that Yvette Fielding had the one appearance and that was in "Crums".

I thought you guys called the delicacy "Fig Newtons" or do you not have a recipe for them either.

In my last I meant to include "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" in recognition of your prediliction for the Latin, bonny lass.

Hi, Big Unc! Hug Hug Hug

Thanks for the fig roll link! I shall give it a go soon. I have a Cookie and Biscuit Bible given to me for Christmas but it didn't have a fig roll recipe. Speaking of Christmas, I watched "Crums" last evening...and saw a very young Yvette Fielding as Crusher's girlfriend! Big Grin I had read she did a one off in that episode. Also watched some Jam and Jerusalem episodes...waiting for the Series 15 & 16 of LOSW to be released so I can get 13 & 14 as well and watch some more. Hugs and xxx's all round!

Hello, my dear friends,

Famous Eccles, I love your use of the Latin...don't understand it...but I love it! Anyroad is, I guess, Yorkshire; I hear it said all the time on the LOSW episodes, especially by Compo. Oh, aye, I wish I was a misplaced Yorkshire woman; that way, I could come home, yeah? Smile I googled "yorkshireisms" one time...and now that I have a printer, I shall print them! I will study, as I know there will be a quiz!? Wink Anyone have a recipe for fig rolls? Hug Hug Hug

Just got word that G.O.L.D. schedule for November is published. Nothing beyond series #24 so what is happening with Series #20 is a real mystery.

"Getting Sam Home" gets another airing on 30th November, but what is real great news is that on 23rd November the 1996 Christmas Special "Extra!Extra!", one hour with Norman Wisdom and George Chakiris" will be transmitted.

Tongue Big unc my ancestors were Yorkshire folk in the distant past but i grew up in Notts on the border with Derbys so my ears became used to a mix of dialects. Anyroad became synonymous with the word 'anyway'(as in we'll do it anyway)so i could be barking up the wrong tree.Anyroad up thats my thought for the day so nil desperandum , tempus fugit ,arrivederci taraa. Young Eccles, august Lancastrian, "me" is correct as it is prefixed by preposition "with". It is down in the West Country, I think, (Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, general south west of England, for the benefit of the delectable Pixie Lady) that they say "with I".

You know, I think "anyroad" is southern USA. Surely in Yorkshire they would say "anyroad up", but as in all things, I stand to be corrected.

Indeed, I was going to suggest that Lent was that period before Easter where you give up something...but not usually enough time to loose much weight! It was suggested to The Vicar of Dibley that she would give up chocolate...but of course she couldn't! Big Grin No more than I could! SmileSure wish I could watch the shows that you all are watching so that I could comment as you do... Frown I still enjoy reading your posts anyroad!

I did wonder, young Eccles, if it was to the Christian period of "Lent" that passage was referring. In which case it is quite appallingly worded. Apart from anything else, in this context the word "Lent" has a capital letter as a proper noun. One does find some illiterates on Wikipedia.

Eek I never liked figs since my dear departed mum 'force fed ' me one when i was about 6 or 7 years old . Herself loves them though! Going on to Jonathon Linsley and lent , LENT is a christian period when you give something up(could be chocolate whatever) to affirm your commitment.
Maybe he decided he should give up his favourite foods and then decided on the full diet.Perhaps we may hear from C F &C to confirm it, he seems to be more up on these things. Smile

Is there no end to this bonnie lass's talents, I say to myself? Mind, I never heard of fig jam, let alone seen it or tasted it. I am not sure I approve of the use of this biblical fruit for this mundane purpose. No, fig rolls is its obvious intended utilisation.

The word crochet caught my eye. I did wonder about the spelling thinking something was missing like a dreaded circumflex or some such horrible French invention.I found it correct by doing a Google and checking a few relevant sites. In the process I came upon a pattern for a sun crochet bikini of which I must confess I heartily approve.

Maybe you can help me, bonnie lass, over what might be a "two nations separated by a common language" situation. Referring to "Crusher" Milburn a certain passage reads:

"However Crusher did not return in the 10th series as Jonathan Linsley decided to leave the show after going onto lent and having elected to go on a crash diet; "

Does the use of the word "lent" in that passage mean anything to you? Okay, maybe it is Yorkshire and I don't do fluent Yorkshire.

Young Eccles, it is great to get recognition at long last. I think they should pay us a retainer. Mind, I do not come cheap!!!

Hello all!!!

I clicked on to read all the posts and was met by a very colourful new page!!! Fantastic!!! Great on the eyes!!! Speaking of fig rolls? (way back in the mists of time), Vicki has a fig tree and she hates figs. Yours truly made fig jam out of the bucketful she gave me. Yes, I would qualify for the Women's Institute...I also crochet and sew. Smile

Re your comment regarding Chas and Dave and LOTSW, Big Bro, I think Top Gear is a closer match. You have the tall, loud self opinionated character (Clarkson) in the Foggy role, the small clown, (Hammond) as Compo, and the more or less normal third man (May) as Clegg. Added to that some of the way out antics they get up to and you have a fairly good parallel.

So, we got updated by a massive jump to 1178.

Sad news about Chas and Dave splitting up. Not that they had a bust up and it is sad for Dave who has retired following the death of his wife. I always thought they had an air of LOTSW about them, in a Cockney fashion.

Au contraire, mon brave. We weary matelots need all the help we can get.

Funny you should mention adding water to your tipple as by coincidence that was just what I was about when notification of your post broke through the ether.

My tipple was very generously provided by one venerable Wrinkled.
