Last of the Summer Wine

When I first put a thread on here I said about seeing more of Foggy But I did not anticipate this many with most of them repeated almost weekly, there are plenty more episodes made with Truly and specials at Christmas, please change the system and let us staunch LOTSW addicts see something different.

Interesting note in Radio Times, in answer to a complaint about missing Elegy to fallen wellies due to incorrect scheduling. "An error in Gold's scheduling system meant our listings had previously fallen out of sync. Gold's spokeswoman asks us to pass on the channel's apologies to Summer Wine fans". I don't feel inclined to accept that apology, I would prefer a public execution of the technician to blame, or, if that isn't harsh enough, at least three hours on the naughty step.

Calm down, BigUnc. If life was simple and GOLD logical you would have nothing to vent your spleen on and we would be deprived of your erudite vituperation. And look at the mess you have made, spraying figgy roll crumbs all down your weskit. Why don't you try some of the new Jaffa cakes with the fruits of the forest filling? Very tasty and don't make half the crumbs.

The ways of G.O.L.D continue to be a mystery!

First they told us they were going to broadcast Series #21 to #24 which meant Series #20 was going to be missed. Then they seemed to realise the error of their ways and over the past two weeks transmitted Series#20 and Series #21. Very logical.

This week, however, back to the bizarre. The two episodes put out today are not the logical Series #22 but they have jumped to Series#23.

SO WHEN WILL WE SEE SERIES #22?

Why can't life be simple?

I found it very touching watching the actors, some of whom had worked with Bill for many, many years. Oh well, rest in peace Bill (and wee hamster)

Hello Famous Eccles!

Yes, I know about Nora Batty's home. I know it gets rented out...and I have been on her porch! But when the photo Vicki took on my camera was developed, my head was missing! I meant to redo that last time we were there but we didn't have much time. I did go through the museum that was Compo's home. And we did have a bite at Sid's Cafe. I thought about her home and also the place Bill Owen actually stayed in when they were filming! I would be thrilled either way. When I use my yard brush on my steps, I think fondly of Nora. Smile

We traveled around alot in Cornwall and the Lake District this past trip in May...fantastic! Smile Hoping for more travel someday... Hug Hug Hug

Big Grin Pixie lady i have never been to London so cannot tell you a thing about the place .We mostly holiday in Cornwall (occasionally Scotland) although we did get to Malta once! The point i wish to make is that my paper(The Mail on Sunday)did an article about a man who rents out NORAH BATTYS house for people to holiday there. He makes £25,000 a year and keeps it in the sort of order that NORAH kept it. He has often had Americans staying there and says that the visitors even enjoyed buckets on the stairs when the roof leaked once!! Added to the atmosphere.! The only problem was they did not give a contact address in the article but i assume it should be online somewhere. I hope this may be of interest to you should you decide to base yourself in HOLMFIRTH on one of your visits. Big Grin

Hello, WoW!!! Smile Hug

I see in my AA Atlas where Wandsworth is in greater London. I can't say that I haven't been to London, except that when I WAS there, I didn't see anything! I will explain. I was 14 and my parents were stationed in Spain. As soon as we got there, my Dad flew me up to Middlesex to what used to be Bushy Park Air Force Base so that I could attend school for six months Jan./June 1960. As I was on the base, in a dormitory, and on me own for the first time, I never went anywhere off the base. I'd never been on me own before and I was very immature. For some reason my brothers went to the school in Spain!? Anyroad, nothing was accomplished, including good grades; all I did was play and get into mischief. Most in the dormitory went home for the weekend but I was too far away to do that. I did spend the next two years in Spain and we all took correspondence courses. I was still behind one year on my return to the US. Should have graduated 1963 but was '64 instead.
I would love to see London; maybe someday. Frown

Wrinkled of Wandsworth

1 to BU: Sky remote controller has button marked tv guide. Use it! If still have probs, give me a ring so I can understand the prob and if necess tell our eager readers in case they have same prob.

2 to Geoff-etc: and while you/they're about it tell the announcer not to talk over the credits.

3 to Pixie: if your visit takes you to Wandsworth, we have nothing whatsoever to do with LOTSW but we do have some decent riparian boozers, and by the way your old chap may have turned 6 0 - that's nothing. Old Wrinkly here can give him 10 years and not notice it (but I think I speak for all of us when I say we'd all love to meet you).

Well, Old Chaps, my old chap turned the big 6-0 on Thursday last. I've still got four years on him, come November! Smile
Frown Well, so much for the gorgeous flat in the West countryside...not "doable" without wheels. Frown Vicki says to not be too hasty but alas, the lass does wear a ring now. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for her, but I could have lost me traveling mate! We'll see...she said, "I'm not married yet!" He didn't want her to go for a fortnight the last two times we went. Frown
Can't wait to order the next series (13, 14, 15 & 16) later this month. I did say something to amazon about the wrapping not being strong enough to keep the cases from not being cracked when they arrived! Luckily no damage to the discs! Confused
Hug Hug Hug all round!

Please, please tell the presenter who chats before Last of the Summer Wine to stop saying that were now going to the Dales for Last of the Summer Wine. Holmfirth is NOT in the Dales.

Ignore my last. I found how to do it. Hit the little "i" button.

Anybody know how to lock SKY on to a particular channel (usually G.O.L.D. at the moment). I want to eliminate the effect of the dreaded "TV Info" switch being pressed and recordings being spoilt.

Is that a Sky plus function, Wrinked old son? I am not sure I can do that with my ancient system.

Radio Time is gradually correcting its listing

Sky's own "tv guide" on the remote control now shows the "correct" series 29 titles.

I see our count got updated.

I just wish G.O.L.D. would correct its TV Listings. They do seem to be transmitting Series #20 this week but all the listings I have seen specify Series #21 episodes. That is alright provided they stay consistently wrong but one does worry they will do something unexpected and we'll miss something special!

Hi everyone! Hug Hug Hug

Grumpy Uncle, I appreciate the suggestion but Vicki is my driver whilst in the UK!!! I have never driven across The Pond; only observed! Vicki seems to think as I have been in the car on two fortnight trips that I should be able to do it but I think with me at the helm, it might be a bit dodgy! Roll Eyes She's made eight treks to the UK. That's why I said I would be more comfortable walking to the bus shelter or to town, if she wasn't with me. My friend in Manchester told me of a flat to let in W. Yorkshire but I need to ask all the right questions. We shall see!!! Smile Smile Smile

Do the powers that be know what they are about???????

Set up to record G.O.L.D. this morning. Mild hiatus when her indoors decided to watch the News on Sky. Still have not got her house trained after all these years.

Switched recordong to G.O.L.D. Plus One. Caught the beginning of first episode at 08:00.

NOT SERIES 21, Episode #1, "Lipstick and Other Problems" but, lo and behold, SERIES #20, Episode #1, "The Pony Set"!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't help but think that them that called the Series #9 DVD Series 9 & 10 have a lot to answer for. Created a whole mess of confision over Series numbering!

Haven't got time for more watching this morning, Church calls.

Grumpy brother, you really do seem to have gremlins in your system. I can get here easily three ways. The old link I had in my "Favourites" folder to Alibi still works and brings me straight here. The link in the new posting advisory emails brings me straight here. Only slightly tortuous route is to navigate the UKTV website to G.O.L.D., select MESSAGE BOARDS and then pick up this thread - slight complication being need to select G.O.L.D. Forum as an intermediate step.

I see we are still stuck at 1197.

REAL reason for this posting is just to remind everyone (as if you needed reminding) to set everything to catch the first three episodes of Series #21 on G.O.L.D. 07:00 to 09:00, repeated at 19:00 to 21:00. They will of course be on G.O.L.D.Plus One an hour later and also G.O.L.D. Top Up TV (whatever that is) in the evening. The first two will also be broadcast Monday and the third, along with Episode #4, on Tuesday.

A very good day to you all at last. Since the 23rd September I keep getting notification of all these new posts but have not been able to access the site. I just keep getting referred to the same old message. Have managed to get here today having followed a most convuluted route. Only hope I can find it again, should have left a trail of fig roll crumbs to follow.Found one listing of future episodes which seems to show that in November we are back to Series One yet again.
Pixielady, when you come over next time hire a car. You will find it much more convenient, much less confusing and quite possibly cheaper than our public transport system. Here's hoping I can find my way back again. Grumpy

Big Grin Big Grin Many congratulations to Pixie Lady's buddy, Vicki. But we sure hope the bonnie lass's wanderings around Yorkshire's dales and Scotland's glens are not curtailed.

It is a pity our count stalled as we approached another mini-milestone. We must be over the 1200 mark by now. One apparent change for the better is we do not seem to be getting cancelled just because we use the odd classic tag.

From another thread which I have started following, I have learnt that UKTV does seem to have access to Series #20. They are using an extract from a Series #20 episode on the trailer for the upcoming airings of Series #21 to #24. It, of course, remains a puzzle as to why they have never broadcast Series #20 and are "missing it out".

Where is my grumpy brother?
