Last of the Summer Wine

When I first put a thread on here I said about seeing more of Foggy But I did not anticipate this many with most of them repeated almost weekly, there are plenty more episodes made with Truly and specials at Christmas, please change the system and let us staunch LOTSW addicts see something different.

In the interests of research I went back to the current start of this thread back in February 2007. (We know it started before that but some of the very early posts have been deleted). I did not go page by page but took a shortcut. It is currently 53 pages long. To get there use:

I was so amused and surprised to find this entry for 3rd March 2007:

Grumpy Uncle's so so right. More specifically, I don't think "A Merry Heatwave" from series 4 has been shown for yonks if at all, and many of the Christmas and other specials never get an airing.

Also, it would be helpful if we fans - who give you a guaranteed audience - could have some notice of what is coming."

If someone has the time to trawl back through this thread they might get a definitive answer but I do not think "A Merry Heatwave" ever got shown on G.O.L.D. or its predecessers, UKTV Gold and Drama. I ceased worrying about it when Series 3 & 4 DVD came out and it was on there.

"A Merry Heatwave" was, of course, the first Christmas Special but it was a bit confusing because some of the references treated it as an episode of Series #4. And, to be fair, it was shown during Series #4 run.

I am far from sure, in fact, that more of the early Specials were ever shown. I know how frustrated I used to get when "The Loxley Lozenge" was shown so often as if it was a regular epoisode from Series #8. But I do not recall "Small Tune on a Penny Wassail", "And A Dewhurst Up A Fir Tree", "Whoops", "All Mod Conned" or "Merry Christmas Father Christmas" being shown. I ceased worrying when they came out on DVD. Before then it was very exciting one Christmas when three/four Specials were shown: "Big Day At Dream Acres", "Crums", "What's Santa Brought for Nora Then?" and possibly "Barry's Christmas".

Eventually, the two feature length episodes "Getting Sam Home" and "Uncle of the Bride" did get shown and, of course recently we had a feast of the later Specials.

So, I am unsure of the early seven I listed, particularly "A Merry Heatwave" but, as I said, I lost interest when they came out od DVD.

Greetings O Frustrated One, welcome to the gang. Don't know offhand if "A Merry Heatwave" has been broadcast by Gold but it is available on the DVDs of Series 3 and 4. It was also available as a video but they are much harder to get in these electronically advanced times. I daresay Big Unc will be able to tell you if Gold has ever shown it, providing he hasn't overdosed on fig rolls.

Yes, it would be great to see some more of the up-to-now unseen specials. But my BIG question is - "Has 'A Merry Heatwave', first broadcast by the BBC on the 1st Jan 1978 as part of series 4, ever been shown on G.O.L.D? Can someone enlighten me! I have been looking out for this for a couple of years now.

Good to hear from you, Pixie Lady. Funny, I was wondering where you had got to.

For YouTube outtake of Fran (Yvette Fielding):

Hello all! Hug Hug Hug

The mention of "Crums"...right away I knew it was Yvette Fielding! I initially know her from "Most Haunted", which airs here on the Travel Channel. It was off for awhile but just a fortnight ago, started anew with a new series. I had seen her in the "Last of the Summer Wine" book that I have as someone who did a one off or more in the series. A very young Yvette Fielding! Hardly could tell it was 'er in the episode! Big Grin

Happy Anniversary to EastEnders this month...even though we are only getting into 2003 episodes at the moment! Still I enjoy watching two episodes on Sunday night.

Take care! Smile The Anglophile in Virginia

IMDb states that Brian Wilde had son Andrew Wilde, designated a "Film Editor" with LOTSW among his credits.

Chorley Cakes with butter sounds real ostentatious. I must give it a try. But it could prompt the deep philosphical question as to which is the top side of a Chorley Cake to which the butter should be applied.

Good to have you with us, Wrinkled, old buddy. I am trying to recall without any success if I have tried anything new in the uisge beatha line lately but have nothing to report. What I have been imbibing has gone down relatively smoothly I am pleased to report.

Did you see the detail of a source for "First of the Summer Wine" pilot on DVD which we were talking about here semi-recently?

Big Grin enjoyed the flurry of posts today, but unfortunately nothing to add to the Crusher Debate .I have a question that herself keeps asking me to find out , is the ANDREW WILDE who appears in the credits as production assistant any relation to FOGGY??? ps tried CHORLEY CAKES at the weekend (with butter), a big thumbs-up all round!! I think so, B.U. I have a note from somewhere forgotten that Crusher was in from '85 to '90 which is ridiculous but whether a typo or a mistake I know not. Certainly he was in "Dream Acres". "The Experiment" which followed is the one with Nora searching for ants in the caff - I can't believe that Crusher would have been left out of such a fecund situation.
WoW.

Many thanks for that but have I now got the sequence right?

Crusher's last episode was "Big Day at Dream Acres" the 1987 Christmas Special. He did not appear in Series #10 (1988). They brought a girlfriend, Fran (Yvetted Fielding), in for him in "Crums", the 1988 Christmas Special, but he did not appear himself.

Just to confirm that Crusher's girlfriend Fran (Yvette Fielding) was in Crums in 1988.

How do Folks. They showed "Big Day at Dream Acres" recently & Jo Good (who incidently is a TV & Radio presenter for the BBC here in London now) played the Wife of the new owner of Dream Acres

Big Unc

I think Crusher's last episode was a year earlier in "Big Day at Dream Acres". IMDb lists in the cast Joanne Good as "Vi". Could that have been the episode (and the girl)?

Significant differnce in ages between Michael Aldridge (born 1920) and Brian Wilde (1927).

grumpy uncle

Think the episode with Crusher's girl friend was the 1988 Christmas Special "Crums". Can't be certain off the top of my head but seem to recollect Seymour had been sold a doll by Auntie Wainwright and was trying to persuade the girl friend that the doll was his wartime mascot which had accompanied him on bombing raids during the war. The funny thing is that Michael Aldridge did actually serve in Bomber Command while Brian Wilde, the ultra militant Foggy, saw no active service at all.

I wonder if C,F & C notes he is being quoted on another forum on the subject of any future DVD releases. No new information is available, just continuing hope that another will be released soon.

Can anyone name an episode(s) where Crusher's girlfriend appeared, much to the chagrin of Ivy and Nora.

Lovely word that. "chagrin"!

Found the reason for the apparent reclassification. It was found that due to an error in the law, breaches of classification weren't enforcable in UK Courts. When this was found out, legislation to correct it was rushed through, but it meant that everything that was classified after September 2009 was only "voluntarily" classified. So now that the legislation has gone through, all those titles have been reclassified under the new laws.

sounds promising for the new block of episodes, but surely they mean 25-29 (upto 2008 series) due to the series 9 cock up, lets hope the specials are shown as well and 20-24 will be shown from next week, but hey if they wanna show upto 31 we wil be more than happy.

i had noticed that on bbfc big unc but they was all past in september, 6 weeks before release date (in fact all the episodes for each dvd have been passed around the 6 weeks before point) my guess is a computer error led to a load of info already passed ending up on the site that day.

stil no news on transmission of series 31 but dont trust wikipedia's info thats been messed around with this week (on the series 31 page) after i tidied it up last year and dont trust the dvd info on there as well, thats nonsense why would they release 1 series instead of 2, my guess is someone who will throw there rattle out of the pram if foggy's last series and truly's 1st series are on the same set, personally as long as we get 2 series at a time in chronological order they can put 2 third men on the same set, just think of all the changes post compo and all the different trio's and quartets, im sure we wil get a release this year and universal know what there doing with the releases

hopefully that answers some of ur concerns about our show and if i hear anything will post on here to let u know

till the next time

Hi there,

Unfortunately we have no say or control over the DVD release of any of the BBC's titles. You'll need to take that up with BBC Worldwide or the DVD distributor.

Thanks,

Perhaps the Powers that Be, who look down kindly upon us mere mortals and sometimes grace us with their comments, could let us know who makes the decisions as to when new DVDs are released. We could then make them an offer they cannot refuse, a ferret stained wellie in the bed perhaps?

C, F & C might be able to answer this.

Just visited British Board of Film Censors (BBFC) website to see if there is any activity on next DVD. Nothing doing. Was a bit surprised though to see that they seem to have reviewed DVD labelled (or mislabelled depending on viewpoint) Series 15 & 16 again as recently as 21st of this month. Why when it has been on streets for months?

My visit to BBFC site might have been a bit optimistic because I seem to recall DVDs in past have been advertised on Pre-release before they go through censor. It is though most reliable guide to what episodes will be included.

Hey all -

We'll be showing Series 26-30 (although you may known them as 27-31... see an earlier post for clear up that confusion!) from September this year.

You can catch up with Series 21-25 from next week.

Does anyone know if/when they're gonna show episodes from the 26th series? That's the only one I don't have and its really ANNOYING! If they are not going to show it, is there anywhere I can buy it from?

Smile Thank you to Big Unc for your answer, I'm glad there will be a series 31. I just wish all the other series were available on DVD, it certainly takes a long time between releases to get them.
