Doctor Who (bring back the old b&w ones too!)

Thread Starter: DavidBiggs    Started: Tue 25 Oct 2005    Replies: 89

I love the new series and its great that UK GOLD are playing this. However, I would also like to see some of the old black and white ones again from the Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee era. I know some of these are missing but it would be great to see the series from the start. What does anyone else think?

I know this thread goes back to last year but...

To add my forepenneth, i think possibly a lot of people here have simply come of age just at the wrong time.

Dr Who had until the last few years gone round and round in a circle since the late 80's. In the early days once finished going straight back to the very 1st story. The Unearthly Child. It has been a good home for Dr Who for a very long time.

They've not gone back to B&W episodes for a painfully long time now, like to see that addressed but I really cant get my head around a channel thats whole existance is (or was) nostalgic TV puts an halt on something because its not in colour.

I think UK Gold has quietly changed itself from its original set up with no relaunch or announcement to a station thats now just matching other digi stations. Massive shame.

My advice is though, keep a eye on BBC4 weekly. That really is showing stuff occasionally worthy of what UK Gold once was.

Hi There,

I'm old enough to be a fan of the older Dr Who's, I was brought up with Tom Bakers Doctor.
I think the new series is great. Was sad that Christopher Eccleston was only there for 1 series though. David Tennant is doing a great job.

Sadly, as far as I know, the new series doesn't begin until around March but the Christmas Special should be on either Christmas Day or Boxing Day..or there abouts. Can't wait!

See Ya.

I did notice it, but assumed it would probably be nothing like a full run. I'm starting to really regret throwing out all my VHS tapes.

Hi Garyo72,

Do you get BBC4?
Last night (27/11) at 7.10pm they screened the first 2 parts of "Ark In Space" as an omnibus. They seem to be having a 70's season so not sure if they're gonna be showing Doctor Who for any siginficant length of time. Fingers crossed! Big Grin

What a crazy situation. To think I was hoping for the complete Tom Baker era to start showing! We are long overdue that. Confused

Sat 02/12 The Sea Devils.
Sun 03/12 The Silurians.

Sun 03/12 0245 New Earth.
0330 Tooth and Claw.

Sat 09/12 The Green Death?!?! (Again)
Sun 10/12 The Sea Devils?!?! (Again)

Sun 10/12 0215 "Girl In The Fireplace".
0305 "Rise Of The Cybermen".

That's the schedule according to UKTV Gold. It makes little sense showing stories that were shown a week earlier!! Confused

Hi There,

Does anyone have any info of UKGold showing Hartnell or Troughton stories during the current run?

I love Pertwee but we have seen them several times before. It's a funny running order..Wonder why? Confused
Wasn't the Daemons in black and white!!. They've already screened it in colour before so that's another mystery!

I think the planner had 1 too many when this schedule was created.

I'd love Hartnell episodes from the start. It wouldn't take that long to screen. They could get through the Troughton era in a week as there are so few remaining!!
My stories from that era were chewed up by the video so badly need a re-run.

Hav fun.

dec. look pritty good too...if yer like jon pertwee (also seeing some of the ones shown this month Confused ).
also good to see it return to the weekend slot (bar 1 weekend 23rd and 24th).
strange why there showing the sea devils on the 2nd and again same episode on the 10th?(could just me a miss print in the list hopefully).
also showing the new dr too on the same days.
dare we hope that uktv golds is holding on to show the tom baker years starting in the new year ?, or we faceing jon pertwee looped over and over .

would be even better if thay started from hartnell

Why has UK Gold screened Genesis of the Daleks episodes 5 and 6 today instead of 3 and 4 ?

i know what you mean. even i was a bit gob smacked!! the only thing i can think of is now that genesis of the daleks is on dvd, perhaps the licensing for that particular dalek episode has been relaxed a bit. could be wrong though. who knows how the brains at uktv work!

"For anyone interested, I got the above info from the following link"

Yeah - I've also been checking www.idigitalsales.co.uk/uktvGold/ quite regularly! Not sure why they're listing January 2006 at the top! I downloaded the PDF thinking it was listings for Jan 2007!

Surprised they're showing "Genesis of the Daleks" - I thought that was one of the problems UKTV Gold had with Dr Who - licensing for any of the Dalek episodes (which usually were skipped) and now had run out of the license for all the other episodes. Unless it's now renewed? Hmmm...

Goodness, what a horrible time of day to show them! I shall be setting my VCR, that's for sure.

Success……..of a sort! There is good news and not so good news. The good news is that uktv gold is going to start showing classic Who as from the 1st November. Even better is that it is starting with Tom Baker. And even better, it’s a DALEK story!!! Bad news is that Tom’s run will be a very short one. Genesis of the Daleks will be shown over 3 nights (Weds 1st, Thurs 2nd and Fri 3rd November). Thereafter from Sat 4th November they are showing Jon Pertwee stories EVERYDAY (and in no particular order!!) at the usual times for the next week and few days. The fact that they are showing them on weekdays at this time is lunacy seeing as how the majority of people will be either on their way to or at work when they are on. So remember to set your Video/DVD recorders!

Full listing and start times below. Please note it is for UKTV Gold. Add an hour for +1.

Wednesday 1st November Genesis of the Daleks pt 1 7.05am

Thursday 2nd November Genesis of the Daleks pt 2 7.05am

Friday 3rd November Genesis of the Daleks pt 3 7.05am

Saturday 4th November Colony in Space 6.20am

Sunday 5th November Spearhead from Space 7.00am

Monday 6th November Carnival of Monsters 7.00am

Tuesday 7th November The Claws of Axos 6.25am

Wednesday 8th November The Curse of Peladon 6.25am

Thursday 9th November The Three Doctors 6.25am

Friday 10th November The Time Warrior 6.25am

Saturday 11th November The Daemons 6.00am

Sunday 12th November The Time Monster 6.10am

Monday 13th November Terror of the Autons 6.25am

Saturday 18th November The Time Warrior (again!) 6.00am

Sunday 19th November Invasion of the Dinosaurs 6.00am

Saturday 25th November The Green Death 6.00am

Sunday 26th November The Mind of Evil 6.00am

For anyone interested, I got the above info from the following link. You need to download the Adobe file for the listings to open.

Not sure why UKTV Gold are showing Pertwee all over the place. Starting with Colony in Space and then going back to Pertwee’s first appearance in Spearhead from Space. More uktv lunacy!! I hope this isn’t the result of them now renewing the BBC license – more Pertwee. I wouldn’t mind but I saw them all earlier this year and now we are seeing them again. If they are going to show Pertwee at least show the Dalek ones. And come on uktv, are we ever going to get to see the full Tom Baker era???
