Leicester Comedy Festival: 6 – 15 February 2009
The Leicester Comedy Festival is the UK's longest-running comedy festival, with 60,000 visitors to 230 shows. It next takes place on 6–15 February 2009 at various venues throughout Leicester and Leicestershire – including theatres, arts centres, pubs, libraries, schools, museums and streets. Past comedians have included Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr, Norman Wisdom, Jo Brand, Bill Bailey, Paul Merton and Harry Hill.

Newcastle-Gateshead Comedy Festival: 2 – 8 March 2009

Bath Fringe Festival: May – June 2009
The Bath Fringe Festival is an explosion of artistic and creative activity, which opens alongside the Bath International Music Festival on Friday 22nd May 2009 and runs for the next 16 days with events in over 30 venues across the city. See great Stand-up Comedy alongside Spoken Word, Digital Arts & Media, Cabaret, Physical Theatre and Circus Arts.

Liverpool Comedy Festival: 28 May – 7 June 2009
The Liverpool Comedy Festival takes place in Liverpool every year and is a celebration of all things funny spread throughout the city. All of the venues in the city get involved, including Rawhide Comedy Club and Royal Court Liverpool. The Festival incorporates everything from stand up comedy, comic plays and workshops, to one man shows, children's shows and much much more.

Grin Up North Comedy Festival in Sheffield: September & October 2009
This festival is a collection of the best stand up, sketch, circus and film comedy in the UK and beyond, providing things for all audiences from three to ninety three.
From 2009, the organisers have plans to expand it into Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster, which should further raise the profile of the festival in future years.

If you've always fancied having a go at stand-up comedy - this is your chance. During the weekend you will Learn the secrets of comic timing, stagecraft, breathing, relaxation and much more; culminating in your own stand-up spot. You will be sent a DVD of the show to prove that you had a go at stand-up comedy. You will learn professional "tricks of the trade", including comedy timing, what to do with your hands, how to project the voice etc, all in a relaxed hotel environment from two Comedy professionals, John Arthur and Bobby Bragg.
