How we chose the 30 moments

How we chose the 30 moments

To help us chose the 30 moments for our When Were We Funniest? votes, we assembled a crack team of comedy practitioners and experts. For each decade we sent them a 'long list' of comedy moments, asking that they select their own favourite 30 moments. We added those votes together to create the top 30.

In addition, we encouraged the comedy experts to suggest moments that may not have been on our 'long list.' So any comedy moment that did not appear on our 'long list' - but which more than one expert suggested should be included - has also been added into the final 30.

We've limited each show to a maximum of two moments per decade and the moments chosen have to be 'transmittable' – i.e. compliant in terms of language and behaviour for the time of day that When Were We Funniest? may be broadcast.
