Dallas
9: The Ewing name
David Jacobs took the name Ewing from an actual Texan business dynasty. When writing Dallas, he knew he wanted a name that sounded quintessentially Texan, and remembered "Ewing" from a sign he'd glimpsed in Dallas. Much like the Ewings of the TV show, the real-life Ewings have been prominent in Texas since the Great Depression - except their business is cars, not oil. The network of Ewing dealerships are still going strong today.
10: Dead again
One Dallas character had the dubious honour of being killed off twice during the series. The character in question was Jamie Ewing, cousin to JR and Bobby, who was obliterated in a car bomb explosion in 1986. But car bombs are nothing compared to the power of screenwriters, and Jamie returned when the season that her death had occurred in was revealed to be one long dream in Pam's head. She didn't last long, however; shortly after returning to life, poor old Jamie was killed off again in a rock climbing accident. This time, Pam wasn't dreaming.
