In Justice

Most crime dramas focus on good guys bagging the bad guys. But In Justice is all about how the good guys in question can get it wrong. With Kyle MacLachlan heading the cast, it's a thrilling take on the legal system and its flaws...

Every year, hundreds of innocent men and women get convicted of crimes they didn't commit - sloppy police work, false testimony, biased juries. In the blink of an eye an innocent man can lose his life to the mistakes of an imperfect system. And every year the number of innocents who live without hope behind bars multiplies, while the real criminals walk free.

But the innocent have finally found a champion in a blustery but charismatic attorney named David Swain (Kyle MacLachlan). A legendary litigator, Swain is the head of the Justice Project, a high-profile, non-profit organization made up of hungry young associates who fight to overturn wrongful convictions, liberate the falsely accused and discover the identity of those really to blame.

Whether the ego-driven Swain is doing this in the pursuit of justice or publicity remains to be seen but thankfully he has his partner, ex-cop Charles Conti (Jason O’Mara), to keep him down-to-earth. Conti hits the streets, interrogating witnesses and uncovering new clues and together they work to rectify the mistakes of the justice system one case at a time.

The writers behind the show

In Justice was created by Robert and Michelle King, a husband-and-wife writing team. The show is Michelle’s first big venture, while Robert has already carved out a career as a Hollywood scriptwriter. The pair were inspired by real-life versions of the NJP like the Innocence Project, which was founded in 1992 and has overturned the convictions of almost 200 defendants.

Rather than being “ripped from the headlines”, In Justice is, in the words of the writers, “ripped from the heart”. Instead of sifting through the news for inspiration, they simply wrote about the things that got them angry – be it corruption in the police force, cynical lawyers or dubious politicians.
