Morning all!!! Hug Hug Hug

Don't know how but the PBS that used to run our beloved LOSW, actually got hold of the pilot...and I'm so glad I have it on tape. But the dvd's I borrowed from the library skipped past it. Have been apprised of a prob with the Royal Mail...hope it is resolved and does not affect delivery of my current dvd order. Frown

Yesterday, Vicki and I rode to Richmond for the Celtic Festival. We have been several times in the past and also to the Scottish Festivals as well. We usually get fish and chips but nothing is at it is across The Pond...ever! But we keep hoping someday. Frown

I haven't as yet made fig rolls (they are made with dried figs) but I have made Cornish Pasties from the cookbook I brought back. As they baked, I felt I was in a pasty shop!!! Smile I gave Vicki two to take away as she dropped m off but haven't spoken to her to get the verdict.

Must off... Hug Hug Hug

Hello Famous Eccles!

Yes, I know about Nora Batty's home. I know it gets rented out...and I have been on her porch! But when the photo Vicki took on my camera was developed, my head was missing! I meant to redo that last time we were there but we didn't have much time. I did go through the museum that was Compo's home. And we did have a bite at Sid's Cafe. I thought about her home and also the place Bill Owen actually stayed in when they were filming! I would be thrilled either way. When I use my yard brush on my steps, I think fondly of Nora. Smile

We traveled around alot in Cornwall and the Lake District this past trip in May...fantastic! Smile Hoping for more travel someday... Hug Hug Hug

Hello, WoW!!! Smile Hug

I see in my AA Atlas where Wandsworth is in greater London. I can't say that I haven't been to London, except that when I WAS there, I didn't see anything! I will explain. I was 14 and my parents were stationed in Spain. As soon as we got there, my Dad flew me up to Middlesex to what used to be Bushy Park Air Force Base so that I could attend school for six months Jan./June 1960. As I was on the base, in a dormitory, and on me own for the first time, I never went anywhere off the base. I'd never been on me own before and I was very immature. For some reason my brothers went to the school in Spain!? Anyroad, nothing was accomplished, including good grades; all I did was play and get into mischief. Most in the dormitory went home for the weekend but I was too far away to do that. I did spend the next two years in Spain and we all took correspondence courses. I was still behind one year on my return to the US. Should have graduated 1963 but was '64 instead.
I would love to see London; maybe someday. Frown

Well, Old Chaps, my old chap turned the big 6-0 on Thursday last. I've still got four years on him, come November! Smile
Frown Well, so much for the gorgeous flat in the West countryside...not "doable" without wheels. Frown Vicki says to not be too hasty but alas, the lass does wear a ring now. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for her, but I could have lost me traveling mate! We'll see...she said, "I'm not married yet!" He didn't want her to go for a fortnight the last two times we went. Frown
Can't wait to order the next series (13, 14, 15 & 16) later this month. I did say something to amazon about the wrapping not being strong enough to keep the cases from not being cracked when they arrived! Luckily no damage to the discs! Confused

Hi everyone! Hug Hug Hug

Grumpy Uncle, I appreciate the suggestion but Vicki is my driver whilst in the UK!!! I have never driven across The Pond; only observed! Vicki seems to think as I have been in the car on two fortnight trips that I should be able to do it but I think with me at the helm, it might be a bit dodgy! Roll Eyes She's made eight treks to the UK. That's why I said I would be more comfortable walking to the bus shelter or to town, if she wasn't with me. My friend in Manchester told me of a flat to let in W. Yorkshire but I need to ask all the right questions. We shall see!!! Smile Smile Smile

Oh, yes, we call them Fig Newtons but you see, I am embracing my inner British Lass! My friend Vicki and I change in and out of our British accent readily, much to the chagrin of our chaps! Speaking of chaps, Vicki now sports an engagement ring! Mmmm, could I be traveling across The Pond solo next time? She says "Let's not be hasty; see what happens"...she wouldn't want me to go without her. Probably afraid she might miss out on items I spot at the charity shops!!! Thing is, I wouldn't be using a hire car, relying on public transport. But that would be an adventure for me! Big Grin Hug

Hi, Big Unc! Hug Hug Hug

Thanks for the fig roll link! I shall give it a go soon. I have a Cookie and Biscuit Bible given to me for Christmas but it didn't have a fig roll recipe. Speaking of Christmas, I watched "Crums" last evening...and saw a very young Yvette Fielding as Crusher's girlfriend! Big Grin I had read she did a one off in that episode. Also watched some Jam and Jerusalem episodes...waiting for the Series 15 & 16 of LOSW to be released so I can get 13 & 14 as well and watch some more. Hugs and xxx's all round!

Hello, my dear friends,

Famous Eccles, I love your use of the Latin...don't understand it...but I love it! Anyroad is, I guess, Yorkshire; I hear it said all the time on the LOSW episodes, especially by Compo. Oh, aye, I wish I was a misplaced Yorkshire woman; that way, I could come home, yeah? Smile I googled "yorkshireisms" one time...and now that I have a printer, I shall print them! I will study, as I know there will be a quiz!? Wink Anyone have a recipe for fig rolls? Hug Hug Hug

Indeed, I was going to suggest that Lent was that period before Easter where you give up something...but not usually enough time to loose much weight! It was suggested to The Vicar of Dibley that she would give up chocolate...but of course she couldn't! Big Grin No more than I could! SmileSure wish I could watch the shows that you all are watching so that I could comment as you do... Frown I still enjoy reading your posts anyroad!

Hello all!!!

I clicked on to read all the posts and was met by a very colourful new page!!! Fantastic!!! Great on the eyes!!! Speaking of fig rolls? (way back in the mists of time), Vicki has a fig tree and she hates figs. Yours truly made fig jam out of the bucketful she gave me. Yes, I would qualify for the Women's Institute...I also crochet and sew. Smile

I viewed both links...loved the one about Holmfirth! Couldn't find what you mentioned on the other link though. Wish I was in Holmfirth for the filming. We were there in Sept. last and this past May. When you go, please let us know all about it! Smile Hug

Last of the Summer Wine

Hello, all! Hug Hug Hug

According to the book I have, Last of the Summer Wine, that covers the first 30 years, it would appear to anyone reading the dates, that there were no episodes made between Merry Christmas, Father Christmas (first transmitted on 28/12/86) and Series 10 The Experiment (first tansmitted on 16/10/88)... except Big Day at Dream Acres (first transmitted on 31/12/87). It looks like there were no episodes filmed in 1987 except that one!? Confused Confused Confused

Hi, everyone! Can't believe I was vanished...they couldn't possibly object to the smileys and hugs, could they? And certainly not the mention of Ronnie's cd that I took with me to Holmfirth? I don't understand...perhaps I am too emotionally over the moon about the show! But then, isn't everyone on here? Yes, I noticed that he did come across as a dirty old codger at first...but a lovable one! Not sure if anyone in the state of Virginia feels as I do about the show...I only have one friend across the river in Norfolk, whom I met on a LOTSW website a few year ago now.

Last of the Summer Wine

Hi, Porgie and Big Unc!!!
In my BBC book Last of the Summer Wine, it does list Series 9 as having 12 and Series 10 having 6 but as I only have up to "When you take a bite, Yorkshire tastes terrible" on tape, I could order all of 9 - 14 and have them on dvd. My question, Porgie, is if the dvd costs 11.99 pounds, what would that be with shipping costs??? At least that's what amazon.co.uk says. I'm sure I will be taken aback when the bill comes anyway. I only have certain years on dvd, thanks to my chap who, er, ahem, "copied" them for me. Mum's the word! I have 1995, 1976, 1977 and 1973's, including Getting Sam Home. However, even on the early dvd's, the very first one wasn't there...I taped it off telly!!! Of Funerals and Fish, where Cleggy goes to put flowers at his wife's grave. Thank you so much, gentlemen, for your information as always. I have never ordered anything off the internet...first time for everything I suppose! Ta!!! Hug

It's me again, Big Unc! I like that "bonnie lass"; no one's ever called me that! What till I tell my chap!!! Wink Big Grin Cheeky
As far as episodes, I don't have any of 10, 11, 12, 13 or 14. I do have 9, but on tape, so I could order all the last ones and really have something I've never seen! But to test the waters, credit card wise, I should order only one set at a time to see what they translate to in $$$ plus shipping. And because we currently have nothing on either PBS station to watch of LOSW, at least I could. At least you fellows can watch reruns and the new ones. Lucky! Thanks for your guidance, Big Unc!!! Hi, Big Unc!
Yes indeed, I did figure out that Fig Rolls must mean Fig Newtons, which I love! We try all manner of eats; well, maybe me more than Vicki! We did share a slice of Eccles Cake and Victoria Sponge at Blenheim Castle in the cafe. I am anxious to try Chorley Cakes, although I did search and find recipes that I could do, as I love to bake! Haggis...not so much! Altough I did try a spoonful of canned at a Scottish Festival here. Cheeky On the subject of episodes, I was just going to ask for help on that very thing...which episodes do they include and are the specials there too! You must be psychic!!! I was thinking of Series 11 & 12, as I have neither on tape or dvd. I'll give it a go with the VISA...I've never ordered anything on line before! Smile First time for everything, yeah??? Ay up, chaps!

I have seen all of the first series of Kingdom but not any new ones, as PBS hasn't acquired them as yet. I will always see Stephen Frye as Jeeves (but he is good as Peter Kingdom) and Hugh Laurie as Bertie Wooster. I never watch him in "House"; haven't a clue how he disguises his lovely British accent. Anyroad, my sweetie has sent for an all region dvd player for me! Now I may be able to order from amazon.co.uk, not to mention when we come back across The Pond, bring some back that I might see at the car boot sale, charity shop or the market! My brother says in Texas he saw a new episode of LOSW on his PBS...now why can't mine get them? Oh, well, I just wish they would continue with the 1986 episodes.

Last of the Summer Wine

Hi, Grumpy Uncle (and all)!

I saw in my LOSW book that there was a First of the Summer Wine but I have never seen any episodes. No, I'm afraid any DVD's we would have purchased would not have worked here; only CD's and alas, we didn't find any music stores to buy them from in our travels. I wanted so much to get someone singing Jerusalem...I love that tune! Matters not what it means, religious or otherwise. I know about the controversy. We saw DVD's at car boot sales but we knew from an indication on the back that they would not work. I saw several Little Britain that I would love to have had. Big Grin
We are planning a trip to Scotland next May...I have made a note of the Parks Chorley Cakes!!! We did have some clotted cream down South and Grasmere Gingerbread up North. Big Grin
Sorry to hear that you are ill, cfc; I have requested that my ashes be scattered in West Yorkshire when the time comes. We never know when, so we should live and love each day as if it were our last. Hug Hug Hug

Hello all!!!

Now, now can't we all just get along??? I'm a bit upset as well...but from across The Pond. No one at Channel 6 has responded to my emails or calls about bringing back LOSW as someone told me they would be doing after Christmas! They will never get a dime of a donation from me (public broadcasting station).
Anyroad, I returned from my fortnight in England last Saturday. Yes, I paid my respects to Compo with more flowers. My friend Vicki and I stopped in Holmfirth on the way to Manchester. Only wish I could have stayed longer. Cry I envy those of you that have so many episodes and specials and that live there. Even if I had found some over there, they wouldn't work over here. I need to get some more LOSW items for fans here. Can't give them mine! I forgot to mention, on our last visit, when we went to pay our respects to Compo, I actually did some stone rubbings. We were the only ones there the whole time! They have pride of place with the cards I got at Sid's Cafe in a large poster frame. Hello all!!!

Only five days to go before lift off again across The Pond! I will again visit Compo. It sounds as if the new series is a bit "iffy". My bro in Texas says he saw a 2009 episode but didn't say which one. He mostly called to ask if I had sat on the bench overlooking the city as the three men did. I have no clue what he's talking about...where is this bench??? And what was the name of the episode??? Maybe I too can sit on the bench when we get there. The only fairly new episode I've seen was sent to me by the lady in Ohio...The Widow Winstanley in 2006. Well, gents, must off. Love this message board! Hug

Last of the Summer Wine

Hello everyone!
Had withdrawal symptoms, so yesterday I watched four episodes on tape. And also left a message for the lady in charge of programming on PBS in North Carolina. I am lucky to also get PBS in this area and at one time, they were both running my shows. Now that I have a new computer and a printer, I went back in the archives and printed the list of series that the "lady in Ohio" can make, er get, for me! I have quite a few of them but I noticed that she doesn't list any of the specials that were filmed in those particular years. The only ones that I have seen (and that I have) are A Merry Heatwave and Getting Sam Home, which was so great!
Maybe the Airborne Puddin will surface; I had difficulty even getting on this board and it does look different than last time I tried last year. It did surprise me when my chosen name showed up without me even entering it this time round. Spooky! It was still in the air somewhere I guess.
Well, must off, take care Hug Smile

Hi, Grumpy Uncle and Big Unc, (what happened to the Flying Haggis?),

It's great to hear from you two! I have over 21 tapes, averaging 10 episodes per. However, some contain duplicate episodes. I have them listed in a notebook. I taped them anyroad. The episodes I wish I had are the three funeral ones of Compo. I cried during each one. I know of a lady in Ohio that does..ahem.."copies" of them and that is where I got the cd of the music for only $12. I took it with me and popped it in the rental car Vicki and I had as we drove into Holmfirth. I wish we could have spent more time seeing all the places where the show was filmed but I would have to move there. Now there's a nice thought! We did take the Summer Wine Tour and we did eat at the Cafe. It seemed sureal to me.

The PBS station that stopped showing them long ago only ran 1993 (How to Clear Your Pipes) through 1998 (Support your local Skydiver), over and over. The PBS station that stopped showing them last October showed the 1972 pilot (Of Funerals and Fish)through 1986 (When you take a bite, Yorkshire tastes terrible"). However, from the local library, I was able to have my chap copy the 1973 shows along with "Getting Sam Home" on that dvd. As well as the 1995 dvd and the 1976 and 1977 dvd's he got from Blockbuster! Mum's the word, yeah? I am however, having withdrawal symptoms for my show: I have written and called to no avail. Time to call again. And through all this, PBS never airs the specials; so I haven't seen them, except the ones on dvd. I have missed many. I have the Last of the Summer Wine book and have all the episodes highlighted as I recorded them but it only covers the first thirty years. I have seen some newer ones and have some 2002 through 2005 on tape.

Well, gentlemen, must off and start repacking to come across The Pond...just returned from a fortnight in Florida visiting my parents. Much to do before then but I will keep in touch. Smile Wink Mad Mad

Last of the Summer Wine

Hello all!
Last year on my old computer, I tried in vain to log on. I am a huge fan and I finally made the pilgrimage to Holmfirth in Sept. 2008...again I will cross The Pond in May 2009. With a heavy heart, I paid my respects to Compo. My friend Peggy gets news of the passing of our friends through her friends in Wales or else we wouldn't hear anything! I'm in Virginia. Three weeks after I returned, the PBS station that was airing LOSW took it off. I have many on tape and my chap has put some on dvd's as well. I did catch a few episodes when I was there that I had not seen...The Day of the Welsh Ferret and Walking Stiff Can Make You Famous. And the last bit of The Charity Balls! I just wanted to say Hello and that I'm probably not the only Anglophile in this country! Wink
