The Office
The Office Christmas Specials
By the end of the second series of Ricky Gervais sublime comedy, David Brent was fired. At the time Gervais said there would be no more series of the show, and while he has been true to his word, there was a last ever, two-part Christmas special, exploring what life threw at Brentmeister General...
Available for hire...
Well, it's three years on and despite Brent's tearful begging for his job back, he never returned to his beloved paper merchants, where he saw himself as "basically, a chilled-out entertainer". He's on the road selling cleaning products to companies while supplementing his wage by cashing on his newfound 'celebrity' status by making special guest appearances at charity functions and club nights. It couldn't get any worse. Or could it...
Music legend
We all saw from the management training in the first series that David considers himself a bit of a musician (not to mention an exemplary dancer). Since leaving Wernham Hogg, his musical repertoire has moved beyond the mere acoustic guitar, and he released a pop single off the back of his successful suing of Wernham Hogg for unfair dismissal, released on his own record label, called Juxtaposition records the single "If you don't know me by now" of which 150 copies total sold. Gareth still has five copies in his garage.
Wernham Hogg: The Next Generation
As mentioned earlier, it's been three years since the BBC documentary crew first turned up at the office. Back for one last visit, they find Gareth Keenan now in charge and as the staff knows all too well, he runs the office with a military precision. Explaining his approach to management, he explains, "I did learn a lot from David. I learned from his mistakes; he used humour where I use discipline. And I learned that nobody respected him. And in a war situation if you want your platoon to go over the top with you to certain death, it's no good saying to them, 'please come with me lads, I'll tell you a joke.'" Well, quite.
Star Crossed Lovers
And what of Dawn and Tim? During the last two series, the chemistry between the pair was electric and we all wished something would happen, despite Dawn seeing that sexist oaf Lee. Well, now both Dawn and Lee are living in Florida and Tim has had to get on with his life, that is until the documentary crew kindly offer to fly them from Florida back to Slough for the office Christmas party. So will they, won't they? You'll have to watch to find out...
