Hippies
Tuesdays at 10.20pm
Following their huge success with Father Ted, Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews delved into the comically fertile world of 1960s Britain, and, more specifically, swinging London with their next sitcom.
For their much-hyped post-Father Ted project, Linehan and Mathews gathered together an impressive cast – Simon Pegg (fresh from Spaced) as Ray Purbbs, a wannabe revolutionary and editor of counterculture magazine Mouth; Sally Phillips as Jill Sprint, the object of Ray's affections; and Julian Rhind-Tutt (Green Wing) as the super-posh Alex Picton-Dinch.
With the duo's trademark surrealism in full evidence and spot-on lampooning of hippiedom, Hippies is an oft-forgotten but winning sitcom.
