When Were We Funniest?

When Were We Funniest?

All last year on G.O.L.D. we had five celebrity advocates championing five decades of British comedy, from the 60s right through to the 00s. Martin Freeman, Meera Syal, Jo Brand, Phill Jupitus and Frankie Boyle each tried to persuade you that their chosen decade has produced Britain's biggest laughs - and you voted for your favourite.

  • Phill Jupitus on the 90s Alternative went mainstream and the sketch show was reinvented. Phill, John Thomson and Bill Oddie big up the 90s.
  • Frankie Boyle on the 00s Are we producing our best-ever comedy right now? Acerbic wit Frankie champions the Noughties.
  • Martin Freeman on the 60s The Office star sings the praises of ten terrific years of satire and silliness.
  • Meera Syal on the 70s From The Goodies to The Good Life, Meera tells us why she thinks the 70s produced Britain's biggest laughs.
  • Jo Brand on the 80s The 80s embraced alternative humour but still had room for a couple of wheeler-dealers from Peckham. Watch Jo on her favourite comedy decade.
