Cry
Escallonia does not grow well on the North East coast of Scotland. In fact, getting anything to grow in a seaside garden up here is a challenge

Hi - if you can log on and register then we will know who you are... but I would try one of the Botanical gardens in Scotland for advice on what will grow...

I have been of Logan and they have semi tropical plants growing - well worth a visit.

Hi,

I lived in Aberdeen for a few years before travelling south to Perthshire. Whereabouts in the north-east are you? I know of a few good nurseries but they may be too far if you're closer to Inverness or Wick - assuming that you're even on the mainland! Are you right on the coast or are you protected by any trees or anything?

Rebecca.

Help! I have a house on the coast in North Wales. The plot of land that it sits on is very steep and rocky and I really am at a loss as to what I can do with it. At the moment it is very wild and covered in weeds and grasses. The soil is extremely fertile but is open to the elements. It's a holiday home and so I need to do something that is very easy to maintain as I am only there once every month or so. Can anyone give me suggestions?

Hi I live on the coast in Wales too and have found that any plant that has a sturdy leaf does pretty well against the salty wind. We have two lovely red cordylines outside our house whch have survived two winters now.

I underplanted them with margharites in the summer and despite what everyone predicted, with regular deadheading they lasted brilliantly!
