Tried & Tested: Lawn Care Tools
If the only lawn tool you own is a mower, you may not be doing your turf justice. Adding a couple of extra gadgets to your armoury could make a real difference. Gardening Which? have tested a range of handy tools, and identified the best of the bunch to help breathe new life into your lawn.
So what are the best tools for the job? Well, if you want your grass to thrive then you should be scarifying to remove dead grass periodically. The simplest tool for this is a spring tine rake, but there are also specialist scarifiers, both electric and manual, for tackling a more serious problem. You could use a garden fork to relieve a compacted lawn, but a hollow-tine aerator will open up the underlying soil. And for re-cutting edges, you'll find that a lawn-edging knife is easier and does a much better job than a spade.
