School moves one step closer to gardening target

A school in Scotland has been given a gift that will help it achieve its ambition of obtaining 'eco school' status.

Castlefield Primary School in East Kilbride wants to become recognised for encouraging pupils and staff to become aware of environmental issues and it is hoped that a generous donation from local credit union Scotwest will help it to achieve this aim.

Scotwest presented the school's eco committee with wheelbarrows, spades, forks, brushes, hand trowels and gardening gloves in order to help pupils create an eco garden which will benefit the school well into the future.

School deputy head teacher Shenagh Craig said: "We are very grateful to Scotwest and the team for their generosity," reports icLanarkshire.co.uk.

"The gardening equipment will be of great use to the school in order to complete our garden which we hope will become an ideal learning platform in order to expand their knowledge about green issues, as well as providing a great deal of enjoyment for staff and pupils alike."
