Scarlet Fire Rose (Rosa 'Scarlet Fire')

Scarlet Fire Rose (Rosa 'Scarlet Fire')

Known also as 'Scharlachglut' this is a good-looker in the garden for it keeps producing its bright red flowers over a long period. The plant grows tall so it is best grown where there is space and where it can become a focal point.
Price: Expect to pay about £4-£6 for a plant.

The Knowledge

  • Plant Type: Perennial shrub
  • Height: 7m (22ft)
  • Spread: 3m (9.8ft)
  • Situation: Shady to sunny spot
  • Soil Type: Medium
Blessed with vigour and survivability, this is a wonderful rose, ideal for a garden that is not that well maintained. It produces lots of flowers. Cuttings struck roughly in the garden will strike and produce more plants. It is a kind of floppy plant with long stems and it is actually a hybrid from a R. gallica and 'Poinsettia'.

There is a certain amount of wildness in the plant, both in its looks and the way it grows and is a great addition to any garden. It can be left to grow on each year or pruned back to restrain its growth.

Looking Good:
Look out for the flaming colours of Scarlet Fire at the Owl House Gardens, Lamberhurst, Kent.

Best With:
Best grown with Rosa 'Iceberg' for a real contrasting combination.
