Rose Garden

For this programme the Gardening Angels turned an unremarkable back garden into a haven of tranquillity - complete with a rose and herb garden. Read on to find out how...

Leanne Yeoman: Rose garden
Leanne is 26-years-old and works in a supermarket. She adores gardening and is particularly fond of roses. Her garden right now isn't much to look at, though - plenty of grass, a nice washing line and some pegs. John, her husband, claims that Leanne is so besotted with gardening that she asked for garden centre vouchers for their wedding presents!

Ross's plan
The first job was to mark out the site, using a pie chart shape as the basis. Ross created a circle of about three and a half metres across; the lawn was then skimmed. Five obelisks round the outside - a modern version of the wooden trellis - were added for the roses to climb; they became the main feature of the garden. A small herb section, planted with Rosemary, Lavender and other herbs, gave the garden a citrus smelling contrast. But, essentially, Ross decided that this should be their own mini haven - a place where they could take a large glass of wine and just chill out...
