Geoff Hamilton: A Man And His Garden

When gardener, presenter and author Geoff Hamilton died in 1996, he left a huge hole in the gardening world. Universally popular, Geoff’s presenting style made gardening accessible and interesting.

This tribute series – new to UKTV Gardens – looks back at a presenting career that spanned over two decades.

Thanks to talks with the great man himself, his twin brother Tony and widow Lynda, the opening episode looks at Geoff’s early life and influences – from his childhood in London’s East End and rural Hertfordshire, national service to college and journalism.

The series continues with a look at the gardens he created in Barnsdale, Leicestershire, which now receive over 60,000 visitors a year, his personable style, his quest to make gardening accessible to all, and his dedication to environmental campaigns.

With contributions from his many friends – including Alan Titchmarsh – and narrated by Richard Briers, A Man And His Garden is a fitting tribute to Geoff and his legacy.
