Surprised gardener grows strawberries in November

Strawberries are normally associated with the English summer and Wimbledon, but a gardener from Suffolk is still enjoying them with ice-cream in November.

Strawberries are normally associated with the English summer and Wimbledon, but a gardener from Suffolk is still enjoying them with ice-cream in November.

Rick Ruegg (55) from Stowmarket has about 40 strawberry plants and around half of them are still producing fruit now.

Mr Ruegg said: "They taste lovely. I have never had them come in November before, late September, but not now."

He believes that the phenomenon could be a result of climate change and has noted that he has never grown strawberries in November before.

Andrew Stringer, an environmentalist and Green mid Suffolk district councillor, told the East Anglian Daily Times: "I have also seen wasps still flying about, ladybirds about, they really ought to be asleep by now.

"The climate is more volatile. To all those denying global warming - perhaps they could explain this one?"
