Young volunteers take action on abandoned garden

Volunteers in Dorset have caught the green fingered bug and have been helping to overhaul the garden of a sheltered housing complex.

Volunteers in Dorset have caught the green fingered bug and have been helping to overhaul the garden of a sheltered housing complex.

The overgrown garden of Acland Court in Dorchester was tackled by the 'Dorset v' volunteers who have taken away all the waste and weeds and planted new plants.

"The garden is overgrown, so we are clearing that away and then will be planting low-maintenance plants and laying down wood chips to make it easier for Acland Court residents to maintain the garden in the future," Julia Gosling of the Dorset Youth Association told the Dorset Echo.

The Dorset v volunteers have been organised by the Dorset Youth Association and are one of 20 pilot schemes across England aimed at encouraging young people to volunteer.

"Everyone is really eager to get things done and it should look fantastic once we have finished," Ms Gosling said.
