An Australian landscape artist and environmental activist is on a mission to make gardening sexy, according to reports.

Jamie Durie, a gardening celebrity down under, hosts gardening television show in both Australia and America.

A qualified horticulturalist, Mr Durie is also the founder of the award-winning PATIO Landscape Architecture Design and the author of five books on landscaping.

Mr Durie recently spoke about how gardening is now more connected with having a personal flair and artistry than ever.

However, the benefits of gardening are also pragmatic as Mr Durie aims to demonstrate how well-tended gardens in urban developments can help to save the environment.

Mr Durie credits the 'organic revolution' for gardening becoming fashionable again, claiming that there is now a growing trend for 'going back to nature'.

"Gardening is no longer a granny sport," he told Reuters.

"Gardens are now a reflection of your personality as much as the rug on your floor or the jewellery around your neck. They are a connection to nature, a sanctuary."
