August: Zantedeschia Kiwi Blush

This month's plant of the month, as selected by our friends at online garden centre, Crocus.co.uk, is the beautiful new arum lily variety, Zantedeschia Kiwi Blush.

If you love arum lilies, you'll love the new Zantedeschia Kiwi Blush with its delicate pink flushed, white hood-shaped flowers from late spring to summer. It has glossy dark green leaves and looks stunning planted in a clump particularly beside a pond as a marginal plant. It is fairly hardy and can be left outside in most frost-prone areas if you give it a deep winter mulch.

As with all arum lilies, care should be taken when choosing a spot to put them, as all parts of the plant are harmful if eaten and are irritant to the skin and eyes.

Position: Full sun
Soil: Humus-rich, moist soil
Rate of growth: Average
Flowering period: May to July
Flower colour: White flushed pale pink
Other features: All parts may cause stomach ache if eaten and the sap can irritate the skin
Hardiness: Borderline hardy
Garden care: Grow in moist soil or as a marginal plant in a basket with heavy loam soil in water 30cm (12in) deep. Mulch plants well in winter

To buy this plant, check out the Crocus website where you can buy a plant for just £5.95, discounted from £6.95.
