Gardeners' World
The Gardens of Gardeners' World Continued
Barleywood - Alan Titchmarsh's garden (Hampshire)
From 1996 to 2002, Gardeners' World took on a new presenter, Alan Titchmarsh, and the show moved to Alan's own Hampshire garden Barleywood. In a feature he wrote for Gardeners' World magazine he admitted, "It's a bit difficult to get used to other people digging your soil and planting your plants. (The other presenters) are a great bunch, but I do still find it hard to let them loose on a patch of ground that has been mine alone for the past 20 years!" Not only did Alan share his garden with the other presenters, but with about four million viewers, making Barleywood one of the most well-known and best-loved gardens in the country. Alan recently sold Barleywood and has moved with his wife to a nice film crew-free Georgian house and garden nearby.
Berryfields - Today's Gardeners' World garden (Midlands)
In Gardeners' World episodes of today, the programme's base is no longer the main presenter's own garden but belongs to the programme itself. Berryfields is a private garden in the Midlands and, although the owners continue to live on the property, the team has a free hand in the garden with a bit of help from the programmes own off-screen owner. Berryfields is a two-acre garden with a range of borders, shrubs and trees as well as two ponds and a large vegetable patch. The garden is large enough for the presenters, Monty Don, Chris Beardshaw and Rachel De Thame to try out all their creative new ideas as well as keeping the existing garden up to scratch. Find out more about Berryfields in Monty Don's latest book Gardeners' World: Gardening From Berryfields available from the BBC Shop.
