There is very little to beat the bright yellow flowers of Marsh Marigold - no wonder they are also called Kingcups. It's easy to grow, needing very little looking after because it's tough and resilient to insects. It grows outwards over the mud or pond margin, producing flowers on long stems. There is a fascinating double yellow form and one with white flowers.

When you want to increase this delightful plant pull it from its muddy poolside and divide its rhizomes. Look out for Marsh Marigolds in the wild, in ditches and wet meadows. It's a native British species.
