In this much-loved television series Harry Dodson recreates a piece of horticultural history to demonstrate how simple and exotic flowers were cultivated in Victorian times.
During Victorian times, it was the job of the head gardener to supply the lady of the house with flowers she required. He also had to decorate the dinner table, mansion rooms and often a large conservatory with beautiful flowers, as well as providing the traditional displays for family occasions. As a follow-on series from Victorian Kitchen Garden, Victorian Flower Garden allows us to follow, over the course of a year, the amazing ways in which plants and flowers were grown during the period.
Presented by Peter Thoday alongside gardeners Harry Dodson, David Alpin and John Lawson, the series is filmed at Chilton Gardens in Chilton Foliat. arry grows a wide range of plant varieties, including some which are seldom seen nowadays, to create magnificent displays. He even finds the time to create the wonderful floral decorations at a Victorian wedding, a grand musical and a funeral. A fascinating series for anyone interested in traditional gardening and the history of gardening.
