River Walks With Charlie
River Walks With Charlie
If you love enjoying the fresh air while walking in the countryside, don't miss River Walks with Charlie. By touring southern England's rivers - and experiencing the culture, the architecture and customs associated with riverside towns and villages, and the people who live and work near the rivers - Charlie explores our heritage and the natural beauty of our rivers and towns.
One of the country's most popular gardening presenters turns her attention to the wild outdoors in this uplifting and inspirational series, new to UKTV Gardens.
Charlie Dimmock puts on her backpack to walk sections of rivers across southern England, and finds out first-hand how beautiful and rich our riversides can be.
During her trek, Charlie explores the architecture, flora and fauna of each waterway and meets people living and working by the rivers. Examples of her adventures include Charlie travelling the length of the River Itchen in Hampshire. Exploring the river's wildlife, Charlie receives the ancient offering of The Wayfarer's Dole at St Cross Hospital in Winchester before water ratting at the tidal head of the river.
Then it's off to the River Medway, where Charlie walks from Tonbridge to Rochester. Along the way, she visits an ancient Carmelite order and navigates her way through Allington lock before trying her hand at some rowing.
With the Basingstoke Canal and Blackdown Hills in West Sussex among the destinations throughout the rest of series, River Walks With Charlie Dimmock proves that England has some of the best walks - along with some of the most ancient customs - in Europe.
