Johnny Kingdom: A Year On Exmoor

Gravedigger by day and a travelling wildlife expert in his spare time, Johnny Kingdom was born and bred in Exmoor, North Devon and is the latest in a long line of great British eccentrics.

Eccentrics don't always translate to the small screen, but with his exceptional skill as an amateur cameraman and narrator and his intimate knowledge of the local terrain, Johnny is the perfect man for the job.

He's been roaming Exmoor with his video camera for months, building up a stock of home movies with a difference; his document of rural life and the diverse wildlife on Exmoor is both funny and moving.

In this spectacular landscape, the passing seasons create a spectacular backdrop to the events that unfold, from the spectacular autumn pony round-up and the appearance of timid red deer to Johnny's quest to film the elusive badger cubs.

Although wildlife is his passion, human happenings also feature strongly in the series, including an encounter with a horse whisperer and a poacher and the celebrations of Revel Week in his own village of Bishops Nympton. You'll also meet Tony Thorne who owns a medieval hillside farm which was last improved sometime before the war!
