British Isles: A Natural History
Having dedicated much of the last decade to getting us interested in what lies outside our back doors, Alan Titchmarsh now turns landscape detective.
In this stunning eight-part series he travels the length and breadth of the British Isles to unravel a natural history three billion years in the making.
En route, Titchmarsh will reveal secrets that have remained hidden from a time when hippos, hyenas and lions roamed through what eventually became Trafalgar Square.
He will also be examining how the countryside is faring today and investigating the many fresh challenges and responsibilities we face if we are to live in harmony with nature.
During his own voyage of discovery, Alan descents a Yorkshire waterfall twice as high as Niagara Falls, climbs one of the highest mountains in Scotland and flies over the Hebrides in a jet fighter. He even walks down London's Oxford Street as a Neanderthal man - all with his characteristic passion and enthusiasm!
Aided by cutting-edge film techniques, Alan travels back in time to meet our ancient ancestors, watches plants grow before his very eyes and witnesses central London returning to its prehistoric past.
The first ever complete picture of the extraordinary geographical, natural and human history of the British Isles, this enthralling series will encourage us all to get outdoors and learn about the natural wonders on our doorstep.
