A Year At Kew

Once again narrated by Alan Titchmarsh, the third series of A Year At Kew is packed with information about gardens, plant science and the adventures of the individuals who make Kew tick.

Kew Gardens in south west London is one of the UK's gardening institutions, and the third outing sees life at the botanical wonderland once again uncovered. Throughout the series, life at Kew and the work that goes into keeping the popular tourist destination living and breathing all year round is put under the microscope.

This series kicks off when Michael Palin opens the new glasshouse, and reveals Kew's secrets ingredient to its compost heaps, some of the largest in Britain. Other series highlights include a look at how Kew’s first ever bridge was
constructed, how Nigel Happer's notes on the first flowers of each season since 1946 have provided an excellent record of climate change in Britain, how Hugh Pritchard, thanks to Kew's Millennium Seed Bank, has solved the mystery of some 200-year-old seeds found among documents in the British National Archives, and how scientists from Kew have encouraged South Africans to grow certain herbs that are believed to be effective in treating HIV.
