This fast-paced programme follows Chris as he cruises to different parts of the country on a mission to help gardeners find inspiration by encouraging them to look at the countryside and microclimates that exist around them.

Far from being an unproductive and bleak time of the year, winter is actually when all the preparatory gardening work is done, from pruning to bulb planting. Chris exchanges tips with traditional gardeners and land-workers who know that pleaching, coppicing and hedge laying are the ways to kick the winter garden into life. There are plenty of practical tips on the use of evergreens, coloured barks, bulbs, berries and which plants thrive during the winter months. For those who still prefer to remain in the warm, Chris will also be visiting some ornate Victorian conservatories housing exotic fruit and flowers, ferns, orchids and palms.
