Hi new to forum. Got interested in your recipes so popped to shops to buy the morphy richards so as to follow instructions for roast chicken. Also thought this would help with caravan. Have ended up buying Rival versaware as it goes on the hob on low gas and in the oven too. Is also a compromise between the 6.5 and 3.5. Trying out all the recipes but have not understood whether you brown the chicken or put any oil in with it or is it just going in raw? Is it possible to have instructions for dummies please. Where did you find the recipe please? Thanks to all who shared recipes, you are most kind.

Hi Everyone,
I made this the other night and it was gorgeous so I thought i'd share it with you.
Braised Beef with Red Onions & Wild Mushrooms.
1.5kg braising steak, thickly sliced
500g red onions, thinly sliced
15g porcini mushrooms
3 tbsp olive oil
cornflour/water
425ml port
250g chestnut mushrooms
250g closed cup mushrooms
splash of mushroom ketchup
Cut the beef into thick slices, season well on both sides and fry in 2 tbsp of olive oil (you'll need to do this in batches) then put in your slow cooker. Pour 600ml of boiling water over the dried porcini mushrooms and leave to soak for 30 mins, then drain and reserve the liquid.
When you have fried all the meat add the last tbsp of olive oil to the pan and fry the onions gently until just starting to colour, then add them to the meat in the slow cooker.
Add the port, mushroom liquid, porcini mushrooms, closed cup mushrooms (sliced) and a good glug of mushroom ketchup (if you have some) and season.
Cook on a med heat for about 3-4 hours but check to see how the meat is cooking, then add the chestnut mushrooms and thicken with cornflour mixed with a little water, and cook for about 15-20 more mins.
Serve with a jacket potato and savoy cabbage mixed with butter and black pepper mmmmmmm very tasty lol.

Hi,
I've just bought a small slow cooker from Asda 1.8 ltr, just big enough for one or two people. Thought it would be good for caravan. I had a large slow cooker and only cooked stewed steak. Didn't realise you could use it for lots of other things. I'd appreciate any recipes or ideas for smaller meals, for one or two people.
Thanks

Hi, I am new to this site. Just bought a 6.5ltr. Morphy Richards slow cooker as it was in the sale at Argos (cheaper than the 3 1/2 ltr) - now I wondered if I bought too big a size, as normally there are only the 2 of us. M.R.'s recipes all state that pot needs to be more than half full. That seems an awful lot of food. Is it possible to cook for just 2 people in such a big pot? Confused

I have just started to use the slow cooker I bought last year in a sale. I clicked onto this web site and it gave me so many recipes to choose from. The very first thing I cooked in it, was a rice pudding, I got the recipe from here, I made too much to begin with but I will alter the ingredients accordingly. I can honestly say that it was absolutely delicious!! Today I did a beef curry, really enjoyed it but I put too much curry powder in it, the beef was so tender that it just fell apart when the fork touched it. I cant wait to experiment with something else over the week end. Thanks to everybody who sent in so many lovely recipes.

Hi
Has anyone got a tried and tested main course for a dinner party. I have starters and desserts all sorted but quite fancy something done in slow cooker so I can enjoy the night without being stuck in kitchen all evening. Will try the honeyed pork before the evening but not keen on doing rice any ideas!! Smile

Have now tried the Beef in Red Wine and Honeyed Pork recipes. Both fantastic - kids even loved all the ingredients of the latter (very unusual). Eek
Would still like to recieve good curry (preferably chicken) recipes.

Hi There,
I bought a slow cooker on a whim in the sales!!! Then after I got home I thought will I ever use this. It is a prestige not sure of the size will check. After finding this site I am getting quite excited (yes I know I need to get out more). Cutting and pasting recipes galore. Like other users very disappointed with the recipe book provided. Will try some of these but cant believe you can roast a chicken with no liquid - worried about that one. Thanks to everyone who has provided recipes will keep you posted. Develish

Hi

I am another recent purchaser of a slow cooker. The Ainsley Harriott 6.5 LTR.
I was rather disappointed with the enclosed 5 recipes and am therefore delighted to have found this site. I intend to try all of the above. If anyone has a good Chicken Curry recipe; I would be grateful.

Hi everyone, i purchased a 3.5 ltr slowcooker and brought it back to spain with me. I am using it nearly everyday and think its brill! Nearly every other day i make a rice pudding Smile 4oz pudding rice, 2 pints skimmed milk and 4 tablespoons of splenda instead of sugar....it is the best low fat pudding ever. I also spray fry light..(better than butter) on the inside of the bowl. Love the recipes everyone puts forward, going to try putting a chicken in tonight b4 bed Big Grin

Thanks for your reply, suejay! We ate the chicken after 5 hours cooking on high - we're all still alive, and it certainly tasted good! Whats your own favourite recipe?

Following yesterday's pulse disaster, I've a pot roasted chicken on the go right this minute - so any helpful advice about HOW MANY HOURS and at WHAT TEMP would be much appreciated - especially by my family, who are understandably nervous about tonight's meal ...

Hiya Everyone, I had to write and tell you I tried the Roast Chicken in my slow cooker, that Snowlight told us about and OMG was it lovely, I was amazed the skin came out crispy too, the chicken was cooked perfectly and it was so easy, bang it in , cook overnight and bob's your uncle ..perfect roast chicken lol.
I'll have to try the Pot Roast next. Smile

Hi - I'm new to slow cooking too. I've greedily "cut and pasted" most of the above recipes to add to the rather dated looking ideas that came with my new Morphy Richards. So the least I can do is share my experience, limited though it is.
Pulses (mixed)- soaked overnight, boiled rapidly for 10 minutes, then cooked on Low for 9 hours, along with stock, fresh herbs, root veg and onion. Result? horrible, horrible, horrible! All was hard and tough, and had to be substituted immediately by a syrup sponge and custard!
Might try that roast chicken though ... completely contradicts the instruction book, which is always a thrill ... Develish

Smile Hi - My husband bought a £10 slow cooker from Tesco recently - with minimum instructions but no recipes so I was thrilled to see so many interesting ideas on this site - can't wait to try some of them out! Has anybody tried making an egg custard in one?

Hi janer1 - keep far away from supermarket meat! Always remember - what comes out of the slow cooker is only as good as what you put in it!!!
Try reheating up slowly on the hob or if time allows use the oven, just warm up first in the microwave.

re the above...
asked mum and she recons I need to use better quality meat.
ie stewing steak from a good butcher, not from the meat aisle in Tesco!

Used my slow cooker twice so far
very pleased with the lentil and veg soup, but the beef casserole was dissapointing. In fact it was delicious (beef cubes in 1 bottle beer plus 1 pint beef stock with mushrooms and other veg) but the beef was dry and stringy. What did I do wrong? Usually my beef casserole is either beautifully melt in the mouth, or if I don't cook it long enough its tough and chewy, but never dry.
I browned beef first then put in slow cooker with all other ingredients for 10 hours on low.
Is it because I then had to leave it go cold and heat up in the microwave at tea time?
Is it cos the beef cubes were too small? - bought in tesco ready cut.
