I have today received a whole suffolk sweet pickled ham.
Question ? although info included refers to oven baking with oranges and prunes their is no reference to pre-soaking or not although they do refer to Delia's Christmas and Rick Stein Heroes. If I refer to Delia she recommends soaking overnight. On speaking to the supplier they said NO !! So which is right ? Help please Confused

These hams are sold cooked or ready for cooking and should not be soaked. If in doubt talk to the supplier and get precise instructions. It is roughly a 6-10 week process to get to the point where they are marketed and they are very special with a unique flavour. A lot of the advice about hams is confusing, my advice is talk to the supplier, they know best. If it is Emmets by the way, you will have something in common with HM The Queen this Chrismas. Enjoy!

Thanks so much Chef de Maison for your reply. It is indeed from Emmetts and their response has been 'no pre-soaking'.
Communication with them has been a little tense as the delivery was delayed by the carrier ! Thankfully good relations have now been resumed and I am looking forward to enjoying the ham as I trust HM The Queen will. Have warnedthe entire family that as it weighs 8 kg we may all be enjoying ham in a multitude of guises well into the new year. Thanks again for your advice have a very happy Christmas.
